smoking roof motor

evening Zedders. i had a quick serch to see if i could find this issue discussed already with no joy. And anyway I dont think anyone has mentioned roof motors in the last hour so here goes...

i suspected the motor was leaking - even after replacing the reservoirs rubber sea-ring - As i had to keep topping up the fluid
earlier today the roof wouldnt close - it managed about 6 inches then stopped. I could hear the motor doing its thing so i opened the boot to see if i could see the problem and the boot was full of smoke. Clearly coming from the motor. All the fluid has escaped from the unit.

I got home and decided to fill the reservoir up full and cycle the motor a few times to see where the leak was coming from. did that just the once and, again, even with the unit being full of fluid smoke was poring out of the motor....

So my first question is... Is the motor dead?

The leak seems to be coming from the joint between the motor and the squarer section above it - assume this is the pump - which joins onto the plastic resevoir.. theres a metal gasket inbetween i think, does this fail?

This is academic if the motor is fried obviously...

It sounds to me like one of the seals has failed. Either the larger seal between the motor and the spacer unit, or more likely the shaft seal that prevents fluid getting down into the motor windings
