SMG Hydraulic Pump error

Hello, i am new to the forum. I recently bought a 2004 z4 3.0 and it has the smg transmission. When i put it into gear it goes back into neutral, and the transmission light comes on. When i ran the code, code number P1887 shows, which, according to the Internet, indicates that the smg pump failed. Before i spend the money and replace the pump, could there be another reason that the code would show up other than the pump going bad? I would appreciate any feedback you may have.
