Not on my Z4, but my wife's Mazda6. When on the Air Con stinks of stale cigarettes. Is there any way to fix this?
Thanks
Sean

Halfords sell an air-con deodoriser, but it might be that the system needs a proper service if you're getting a stagnant water smell.

An old trick is to run A/C on max heat for a while ...it has worked for me in past and costs nothing if it doesn't solve problem

Also: ensure you give it a regular blast at regular intervals in winter. It doesn't do it any good to be unused from October to May!

Have you changed the cabin filter.Drop down the glove box and it comes into view..Heres a link that should help.http://web.archive.org/web/20071108131928/www.mazda6tech.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=43&Itemid=49

It can (and should) happily be on all the time during winter as well. Not only does the aircon dry the air, so removes condensation quickly, but it keeps the seals (which otherwise dry up and leak) oiled and functional.

Mine's on permanently - set at 18C - as I've had enough problems with seals drying out and compressors failing to go down that route again.

Sean,

If it's a putrid smell it may be that you are out of refrigerant gas.

Did the a/c get frequent use? if not probably time for a service.

I had this in my old SAAB and i bought a new gas can and deodoriser from Halfords and re-gassed the system which fixed the issue. You may have a leak somewhere though if you have to re-gas frequently thereafter!

Good luck,

LC
