Smashed Rear Screen/Roof Swap

Hello all. The rear window on my '03 E85 has smashed and from what I've read it'll need a whole roof swap. Is this a DIY job? I'm 'ok' with basics but need to know if I have to factor in the cost of a professional fit for the new roof?

Not something I've done, but I think Stuart (bigwinn) may have a roof on the one he's breaking, so he may be better placed to advise you, and possibly assist with the swap, if you're anywhere near Lincoln?

From very recent experience I can confirm that the entire roof needs replacing - the glass is bonded/thermo sealed to the roof material itself.
There are many you tube videos so it can be done but is a two person job for most of us. Bigwinn put me in touch with a breaker who fitted mine but if he has one himself now then that might keep things nice and simple for you. If not already relocated you might take the opportunity to move the motor/pump

I was at Stuart’s at the weekend. He fitted the interior handles from his ‘breaker’ to my car. The hood on this car is in really good condition.

Literally just taken it off the car (thanks for the PR gents!!!)

Can send pics if needed

It looks like the back window isn't available as a spare part from BMW which sort of indicates that it must be part of the roof i guess. Roofs are silly expensive new as well!
