Smarttop for E89

Hi guys,
I'm seriously thinking of installing the Smarttop module, the only one I can see being sold in the UK is approx £300. Has anyone had convertible damage from using the Smarttop? Yesterday I drove at 25mph and held a very large portfolio book up the windscreen just to imagine the draft and surprisingly it was much more than I thought!
 
Well, you can choose the speed limit below which it will operate. If you're worried the pick 10kph.

It's a great mod.
 
Haven't got one myself,but plenty have fitted one themselves ( there's a guide somewhere ) think the cheapest I've seen was about £280
Don't think there's been any threads regarding damaged caused by them

I have one. I very rarely use it when moving. It's nice to have so that you don't feel like the car is stuck when the roof is operating but I always choose to pull over to take the roof up or down.

The best function is the one-touch operation for the roof and folding mirrors with the remote.
 
Whats it actual functions ?

Is it one touch up and down instead of holding remote or car switch for 20 secs ?
 
Module active/disabled (for service mode etc)
One touch roof up/down with interrupt if you need to stop it
4 sec push on keyfob open/close roof with interrupt
Optionally, allow roof open/close whilst driving, user selectable limit to 50kph
Optionally, allow engine start/stop whilst roof operating
Optional select window position after open (all up or all down)
One shot up on all 4 windows
Open / fold mirrors on unlock/lock

Think that's it.

You can open and close the roof upto 20 mph anyway cant you ??

And the windows all go up and down together with the button on the switch panel..


Think im keeping my £300 in pocket.... :thumbsup:
 
Roof, no - or not on the 2011 car I have anyway, it might be a later feature?
Windows, one-shot down only. Have to hold the button to lift them up (1st world problem, sure :rofl: )

In my handbook it says i can fold roof down upto 20mph....(im sure it does....lol....).... mines a 2010..

I never realised the windows only 1 touched down......Thats swung it for me..... :thumbsup:
 
Well that's odd, ref the roof, no idea. Next time I'm out I'll disable the ST and see whether I can operate the roof (whilst holding the button for 20 seconds at 15 mph and steering and changing gear)... :)
 
I will have a look when i get home......

I did scrimp through the manual and i thought that was one of the things i spotted... I could easily be wrong...
 
My Z4 actually already does half the stuff that's listed but I like the 1-touch and roof control over the standard 7mph.

I found another seller (French, inc taxes & shipping) for approx £275 on eBay.

If anyone has one they want to sell then please PM me if you have a reasonable price :P
 
I am also looking for one of these boxes... Can you ask if they will give discount for more than one ordered? Just an idea as I think a few people are looking for this box... :thumbsup:

Without doubt the smart top is the best mod I have purchase for my z4 35i . Easy to fit' and as the car should be out of the factory . I have left the USB connected so I can program the module from my laptop .

The roof will only work whilst moving up to 7mph in cars built before 2012. In 2012 they upgraded the pump to allow for increased forces whilst moving the roof at speed, usually up to 30mph
