Smartop + MOT = disable or remove?

My first MOT with a smartop installed is coming up in a month or so, I've left the USB connected with the end hidden for easy access/config changes... is it OK to disable it or is it still best to remove it for the MOT?

Advise from others experience would be greatly appreciated.

isn't it advisable to at least disable it for safety reasons?

I guess my question was more relating to how the diagnostic computer reacts to the smartop, if at all? (The dealer will be doing the MOT)

Supposedly if you disable it, it won't be detected? if it is detected or spotted (for any reason) would Warranty be affected? Is it better to be safe than sorry and just take it out?

I know quite a few people have them, so wondered what they do?

The car shouldnt be getting plugged into a diagnostic for an mot...there really should be no need to remove it

I'm not going to disable mine when it goes in for its mot later this month - I will tell them it has a unit fitted .
I had even considered taking it to the local garage for an mot ?

An MOT test station is a Mot test station, and has nothing to do with BMW dealers garages. Yes they no doubt have one but you can take your car to any test station and it will get the same treatment .I have mine done at a local garage and for sure the test does not involve plugging in to any diagnostics.

I mean even Halfrauds can manage to do an MOT decently, Not that I would be there for any other reason but we have got the cars MOT'd there.

Having the MOT done elsewhere won't affect FBMWSH either if that is important to you so it will just save you some money :)

IMO, other than convenience if done at the same time as a service etc., the only reason for having an MOT done at the dealers is if you have a warranty with MOT guarantee as they will automatically sort any issues under warranty - although this doesn't cover 'consumables' (such as tyres below legal limit)

This is true, when I brought the Z4s they were guaranteed to pass the MOT after one year of ownership, so that could be why!
