Smart TV's....

Loewe have brought out some more reasonably priced screens and they do look stunning- I have a Samsung 7000d with an anthem av receiver and it does blu ray brilliantly but never use 3d or the smart functions.

I have a Samsung 8000 LED which has Internet. Samsung admitted in Vegas 2 weeks ago, the net feature is too complicated and will be revised in the next generation

I think that cable/sat box will slowly be phased out and all components moving to the TV, which would carry the various interface, inputs to enable it for sat, cable viewing

I stream Iplayer HQ content etc... to my samsung over the home broadband wifi via dongle/network bridge. No probs with buffering etc... Its an older model samsung, but have been looking at the newer ones with built in wireless, freesat tuner and iplayer apps etc... Ive done quite a bit of shopping around and reckon there the best around at the mo. Google TVs with built in freesat and the latest samsung ones will pop up. I usually buy from Costco were poss simply because if anything goes wrong in 5 years they generally refund no questions asked.

many TV's now already have FreeSat tuners built into them - not sure I can see Sky letting manufacturer's integrate SKY tuner's into them though :?

doesn't bother me in the slightest though, freeview is my limit and I don't watch that much of that anyways...

most global sat providers use the same credit type card for their sat box's - so moving away from dedicated sat box's would mean lowering their costs in not having to produce them - i guess saving and making more money is always an incentive?

More so tech is becoming much more consoldated these days

I have a dedicated cinema room with projector and for years only used a pc to stream all my content from a nas. This was for quality reasons. About a year ago I bought a Samsung smart bluray player and haven't looked back. Streams all my stuff in better quality plus it records Tv through its twin hd tuners and allows pause rewind etc of live tv.
The Internet side is also invaluable! BBCiPlayer is perfect over it as is Lovefilm which I use alot. Both stream hd material
And the unit is wireless!
I think this is a better option than using the TV to do it. For instance who watches adverts anymore so being able to record and replay live TV is a must and as far as I know there isn't a tv that will do this. Plus you get a bluray player which is a required item anyway.
Not a sports fan so also dumped sky as online material is enough
And all for less than £250!

So I wouldn't get too hung up on ANY TV as they are really just used as a monitor really

Oh and as a home cinema addict I would like to say that 3D is a load of tosh.

My Panasonic TX-P42V20 TV can attach to a HDD and live pause/record etc in HD, but I use my Echostar HDS-600RS far more due to it's usability... For smart TV stuff I use my Sony Bluray player BDP-S370 which has a better interface than my TV.
