Smart Top

So I took the plunge and bought a SmartTop from the official website.

Great bit of kit when its working.

First issue
I already had folding mirrors, however they fold as they should, unfold as they should, then fold back as they should not

I suspect disabling this in the smarttop might help the first issue.

Second issue and more of a concern.

I get a yellow Park brake warning. Park brake does not work. Ignition of on and works for a bit then returns. I ran a diagnostic and received the following;

2A Parking brake
1 error
604A: Locking motor left Supply line - short circuit to U-Batt

40 Car access system
1 error
A10A: EWS4_Timing_Chall_Resp_Fehler

60 Instrument panel
2 errors
A560: ID_Fault Display Switch note E107: CAN BUS OFF

If I remove the module all behaves well. I have checked to ensure the connections are true.

Any suggestions before I return it. I have contacted them for advise too.

Looks like either a firmware issue or a wiring loom error..afaik / imho…

Never used a smartop so just shooting from the hip…

Smart top has an input file that you write to, you just change the settings on that. You’ll want to turn off the folding mirrors module (as you already have it).

Last page of this should help you out.

Thank you for the replies.

My battery is new and a genuine BMW unit. I ran the car today without the smart top and the fault reappeared. When the fault is on my park brake is dead.

The fault clears then immediately returns within a second. I am going to fire up ISTA when I get chance. Im wondering if I have disturbed something when plugging in the smart top?

I have turned off folding mirrors on my car side coding. Now there is no conflict.

Nobody has mentioned this yet and dont know if you know or not but there is a known fault with the ebrake software that raises its head when the battery is low.
Normally when the fault appears only a software update will fix it, yours seems a little like this but strange that it goes away.

I did think of this one, I had to have mine done but as it was showing other issues after the smart top was installed thought it was something else.

I think if you plug it in it may show wheel speed sensor and that indicates a software update may be required - my hand brake worked but had the dash light on showing an error when it failed

Cheers guys. I will plug into ISTA as soon as I can. Currently it is showing the fault and no e brake at all.

I will update as soon as I have any news😎👍

This defo sounds like a software update is required, mine was done at BMW (Paid for by dealer), there was someone on here who downloaded the software theirselves as its job that will cost £200 to £300 at a stealers.

It turned out the problem was water ingress around the ebrake control module. The pins on the top had blue corrosion which was causing a short. Electrical connection cleaner removed it all and all is good. The water got in because the last couple of weeks I have had the roof down on a morning an it was covered in moisture. Lesson learnt.

Well, get the foam around the hydraulic pump dried as well, as the water may run from the ECU's down to the batteriy!

It was only the polystyrene box that holds the control module. It ran off the roof into the sides. Water was contained to just the outside section but thank you for the heads up.
