If no luck on here I recently bought a new one from here. Phoned rather than ordered online and said I was a member of the forum and did they do a discount. They gave me a 10% discount and free postage.

Was about £320 I was watching a 3 and 5 year old unit on eBay and they both sold for about £240 so I decided for the difference to go for a new one

Thank you for that, I’ve seen a couple on eBay but they are old as you said. I will give them a try,
Cheers

There is an online manual for the install at http://www.mods4cars.com/sms/db/smarttop/ext/support/manuals/bmw/STLFBW3/install_z4/en.php

I managed to buy one from someone on this forum. The install is fiddly but reasonably straight forward. The bit you have to be careful of is when you plug the socket on the supplied harness to the matching part on the car. You have to make absolutely certain it is correctly seated or you will get an error message on the dash. It took me a couple of goes even though it looked to be seated it obviously wasn’t.

Found a write up somewhere which said the same thing about making sure it’s connected properly, I will update when it arrives and is in and working, fingers crossed!!
Might be allowed out then, you never know!!

Fitted, cocked it up, removed it, started again.
Seems during the setup I managed to mistake the indicator flash for a sunspot, which led to me turning the module off and it wouldn’t come back to life.
Got it on a pc, reset and programmed it and all is good. I can now pose by pressing the button and walking away!!!
Just driven to the village shop for beer and on the way back the man with 4 Ferraris has them on display for VE Day so stopped for a look. Mentioned this bit of kit and he was well impressed.

Leave the connection plug available in the boot space for any subsequent changes - When mine was very kindly fitted for me in my previous car by a forum member he recommended that tip.
Im just hoping that when the dealer refitted the module in the new car for me that he did the same!

Thanks Argyll Andy, i have been offered the same discount from the guys at 911. Been out around the lakes today and could have done with the smart top at a set of lights. That said, we kept moving under pretty heavy rain and nothing came in the cabin at all.

So, how much is it costing you? I need ideas for my Christmas presents. :D

Fitted my ST today. I had been wondering if you could fit with just the boot lid open. I found one thread that said you could, but you absolutely can not, as you are unable remove the plastic panel in front of the rear light, which must be out to remove the panel on top of the roof controller. Done in 20 mins and works a treat.

There’s not a lot of room to stash the unit and the extra loom away is there?
Did you remember leave the tail of the update cable accessible?

You're right and I've got a bit of a lump under the carpet, but I ain't going back in there until I take it out when I'm selling the car!
Yes Ive left the usb cable accessible. However, the only change I'll make is disabling it for service etc, and I'll do that via the roof buttons. Exceedingly clever bit of kit

Spot on, glad you’re all sorted

When mine goes in for service, I make sure I tell them that there is a one button push roof module fitted - I don’t change any settings.
They accept it in that condition without any fuss.
