Smart top problem

Hi,

I bought a smart top module off a forum member, fitted it today and it does almost everything correctly except when closing the roof using the fob from outside of the car, when the clam shell shuts ready for the 3rd and last section of roof to close it clicks the boot open thus stalling the final roof closing operation. Very frustrating. It opens and closes the roof correctly pressing the roof button once from inside the car.

Anyone any idea's? Thanks for reading.
 
Outline the steps / button presses as this is a special smart top function invoked by a specific set of key presses.

Press and hold the unlock button on the fob for 3 seconds, the two top sections move into position as normal, clam shuts then it clicks the boot open.

Have a look on the smarttop website as there are instructions. Afaik this is a specific button press at the time required to open the boot (like convenience top opening on comfort equipped cars) and not a function that's part of the normal open and close. Might be a USB set-able option perhaps?

I hold for 3-4 secs and I get full open or close and not convenience boot open function.

So I've checked this and the instructions state that a button press of 5 seconds or double boot button press will activate this function.

Been out to check. So... On key fob..

To open roof, hold open for 4 secs.

To close roof, hold CLOSE for 4 secs! (You mention you're holding open)

To close the roof partially when already open in order to gain full access to the boot space, while the roof is already open hold unlock for 5 seconds.
 
Ah right, that makes sense, I'll try it tomorrow, thanks very much for the replies and physical checks on yours.

Just out of interest I hav'nt had any further issues with the clunking DCT again, so I'm putting it down to lack of use over winter and the cold.

See, when you're being a dummy just ask a maniac...thanks very much for that. :thumbsup:

It's a great addition, I really like the quick one touch button opening, brilliant bit of kit, and the roof opening to allow full boot access will be very useful.

I have to say mine occasionally pops the boot lid !
I have tried to replicate this but it's so random i can't find rhyme nor reason.

Before fitting the gizmo, I remember the boot did the same malarkey at times.
 
Not sure what this thread is all about - my Z4 has a top that is always joined to the rest of it at both ends (E86)!

How is any other option particularly "Smart"? :lol:
