Smart Meter Energy Monitor

The past few weeks my British Gas smart meter monitor has been throwing a wobbly in that it loses its network connection with the meters at exactly the same time each evening i.e. 11.31pm, it does however connect back up but just find it annoying in that it logs an error message which appears on the monitors screen as a red triangle which you have to clear by reading it and deleting the message. I contacted British Gas who said to unplug it for 48hrs which i did but has made no difference. Got back to them again and they ummed and then said couldn't help as its out of warranty

I guess my question is why would it disconnect at the same time each day? either the monitor has gone faulty or is it the meters themselves or the Wan/Lan box which I think transmits the signal? The energy monitors are cheap to buy off ebay but unsure if you able to pair it to the meters yourself?

They will be paired on installation, an you'll probably need some software to get the meter wan/Lan box to talk to the in home display , this won't be readily available to anyone other than designated installers, if you could get software the next issue would be programming passwords

Thanks Mark, just as I thought really, I do wonder why people flog the monitors on ebay as next to useless if you can't pair it up. I'll just have to ignore the messages. from now on. I can't imagine British Gas would be keen on replacing faulty display monitors considering how many must be out there.

My monitor hasn't worked since June, but there doesn't seem to be any way to tell npower - unless I send them a letter because I'm not sitting in a queue on the 'phone!

But they seem to be able to send me bills OK. :headbang:

If you switch it off you will save money :)
This is true an doesn't effect the meter readings been sent back to your supplier, it's just so you can visualize the energy being used, the elec will be real time an the gas will normally lag
