Text the gf today asking about the condition of my former zed 4. Bad news, and well... All of you saying that she threw a rod are correct. And those of you that said she made a hole/crack in the block are also correct. So if any of you got both answers correct please come on down to collect your prize of a free vaccum because boy oh boy! Does that suck!

Gutted for you pal.

You now have options.

Transplant a v8/v10 or you can buy a second hand engine for little money and slot in.

Silver lining mate

Bollocks, that's not ace news

She's the ex-gf now, right ?

Oh I don't know Bing, thats gotta be a pretty cool GF if she can blow up a known bullet proof engine, kudos to her.

Seriously, as per ba3bas said, dont let this Zed die becuse of it, either do something interesting with it, or source a 2nd hand engine, do some research, the M54 (if that's what you have) will be a common engine to other BMW models.

The engines aren't expensive on ebay...UK ebay anyway.
Alot of bmws use the 3.0 231 bhp engine
530i e39 330i E46 and probably numerous others

In her defense I didn't leave it in much good shape when I sold it to her. Oil pan gasket leaking. Drilled bumper to keep from hanging. Coolant leak. Driver side door not opening from the outside. Strange rattle we have still yet to trace! but she wanted it for some odd reason something about it being her favorite bmw model.she's a smart one that girl is! I think a sammich test is in order to determine her fate. :poke:

Oil leak, coolant leak ? You hate that girl ? And with all known faults you guys go racing ? :poke:

But i would go for a massive build, build a forged m54 with charger/turbo. Swap in a V8 or just get your zelf the easy way and just fit a secondhand normal engine.

I know what i would do though

I won!! Got both correct  perks of working in motor manufacture.

Unlucky mate :( can't believe that happened tbh. These engine are pretty solid and very reliable.

Well she got the leaks taken care of it was just the bumper and door were closest thing to messing with performance. She slso got a tune up and fixed a coil. So over all she fixed the performance issues I never got to fixing.

Our mechanic said it over heated and that's when the rod went bye bye. :( with repairs and all I doubt she's going for speed anytime soon. Maybe in the future. I hope she doesn't catch up to my 290hp to the rear wheels because then I won't need to let her win anymore. :headbang:

M54 engines are very cheap over hear £500 i have seen them for on eBay. I plan on getting a spare and rebuilding it in the future.

Over here I looked up m54b30 engines on ebay. Most are in the 1,800k range not sure if its basically the same price?

Just had a quick look they seem to be in the £500- £800 region. So about $860 - $1400 so not a million miles apart. The £500 one was a bit of a dog but if you plan on rebuilding it that's not a major problem.
