hi guys, after my gauge install to the ash tray region i relocated my power outlet to the panel under the stereo, unfortunatly access is pretty tight and it seems every single device powered by the cig lighter has a MASSIVE plug end...... can anyone point me in their direction of a low access power sockect extension, it wont be in the car permanently so doesnt need to look good, its just for the times i need to power something....
any ideas???

if not i guess ill have to buy a cheap halfords item and mod the plug section to be really short.....in hind sight, this wasnt the best relocation point BUT.... i wanted to keep it discreet and always planned to use an extension, i just didnt realise its nearly impossible to find with with a nice compact power extension..........

There was a thread on here a long time ago about some ultra low profile ones. Only stick out by about 3mm.

I have since seen them elsewhere. Duracell actually do one and I think I saw it on the misco website.

If you can't find it let me know and I'll dig further.

Beedub, not sure if you have cupholders or not...

If you don't then this is how I fitted an additional 12v socket in my Z4: http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=27467#p378164 - even if the location isn't any use, perhaps the actual socket I used might be of interest as it looks more low-profile than your current one...

you'll find a few low profile ones here:

http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/factfinder/search.asp?querytext=car+charger+usb&image1.x=0&image1.y=0

there's a double one too which i might get replace mine now...

Im there mate, im there! sorry, work got in the way of looking after you :poke:

this one is low profile:

http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=522893&CatId=266

There were about 3 others on there when i posted, some a little smarter than that one. looks like they have been taken off.

Amazon too. this is the lowest profile i've seen - dont think you can get any lower:

arhh guys, you have been awesome... unfortunatly i feel that my explanation of what im looking for has been somewhat mis-communicated......

im looking for a low profile extension of the power plug, so i can plug the low profile male end into my re-located power socket, then i want the other end to be a normal car power socket.... so bacially a power pigtail....... so i can power all my car related objects!!!

Well if that's all you wanted, why didn't you say so! :poke:

So essentially you want a cigarette lighter extension lead?

Just get yourself to maplin or RS, they'll have both plug and socket. Just need some correctly rated cable then.

yep you got it but i still need a very compact male end....... tried maplins and they are all massive, i still need a nice compact male end that fits into my cigg lighter.....

i may have to make my own :-(

Check out this one:

http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/lighting-connectors/1564072/

it sticks out put doesnt look too much, enough to get a thumbs grip on. still might not be enough though.

Why dont you reposition the socket to the top left, you should have a bit more clearance then?
