Small driving rant

Time and time again I've had the experience of having to pull into left or right lane in usually stationary traffic to allow an ambulance/fire engine/police car with sirens through from behind. It frustrates me no end when people behind who see I've done this don't allow me back immedietly into the lane I needed to be in and barge forwards. Highly inconsiderate! Happened this morning on my drive in to work. Drove me bonkers! How rude!

Yes I know what you mean, trying to jump a few spaces........... Why ?
Doesn't get them anywhere and just angers others.

not a good start to the birthday then Ruby! Some drivers on the roads are horrendously aggressive, impatient, obnoxious, rude and generally inconsiderate. But just think, their lives must have to be pretty shitty for them to get so uptight when on the roads.

Gee Ruby. You haven't moved to the USA have you? That all sounds eerily familiar to me.
This is just for you. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SiXCZ-Ew0b0

Keep an eye on the drivers that do it - if you're lucky you may get one of them in as a patient later that day and you can insist that they're well over due for a prostate check (and 'accidentally' forget the lube)

I saw that happen the other day while I waited at a junction. I think some people do it on purpose because they're selfish and impatient, but I also think that some people are on auto pilot and will try and drive their car until something physically stops them. Some cars pulled over and once the ambulance had passed, three other cars followed it nearly piling into the side of the cars that were pulled over at an angle that were pulling back out. Stupidity more than anything else, there's a lot of it about. It always makes me remember an old quote; something along the lines of '95% of the world's population have stupid disease, with the remaining 5% in danger of infection'.

Another Example

Wife driving about3 months ago 30 mph in a Perthshire town ( not much hustle and bustle) - wife sees an ambulance in her rear view mirror and indicates and pulls on to the pavement. Ford Ka behind does not see Ambulance and attempts to overtake us just as the Ambulance arrives- cue much horn blasting from the Ambulance- the Blue lights and siren not being enough.

Incredibly Ford Ka driver completes it's overtake still non the wiser regarding the ambulance- finally ambulance overtakes Ford Ka - 300m down the road - driver still not aware of the 3 ton yellow sirens blaring ambulance behind it.

This is the worst example but I've seen other examples where it's clear the driver has not looked in his rear view mirror and seems programmed to make a gap without seeing the emergency vehicle which is coming up from behind.

I think its time these vehicles were fitted with cameras so that examples of this can be passed on to the police for appropriate action- we all expect these guys to arrive quickly in times of crisis and perhaps this would assist in protecting their safety and that of those they are trying to assist.

Wife complains about this regularly - they are on blues & twos attending a critical call, and people just do not move over, there have been regular instances of people giving the finger to the ambulance, and tailgating from random people using the ambulance as a clearing mechanism. Beggars belief.

I find that in the main folks are oblivious to the sound or lights of emergency vehicles. I always do my utmost to not delay an emergency vehicle. This starts with choosing the place to pull over if safe and allowing then to keep up their progress.

It frustrates the bejesus out of me when drivers stop immediately and cause an obstruction by not reading the road and other traffic. This is little point pulling over and stopping the ambulance of fire engine if that manoeuvre block the bloody road.

All to often i see driving standards of other drivers fall well below what might be termed acceptable norms. I have no doubt that courteous driving today is almost a thing of the past and this involves letting people out when they have pulled over to let an emergency vehicle through!

Personally i would like to see roadside floggings for poor and inconsiderate driving and especially throwing litter from a stationary or moving vehicle. Rant over.

Had this also a few weeks ago, pulled over and the ambulance whizzed by and indicated to pull back out and the car behind tried to overtake giving me the horn. They either think your pulling over permanently or as said impatient. Worse is if your stationary at a red light, it turns to green and the junction ahead is blocked with stationary traffic. You wait at the green light as I did not to block the junction until the traffic ahead moves on and the driver behind gives you the horn and hand gestures, it was a woman with kids in the back....nice. This was a junction with the yellow box to inform you not to stop inside it.

For me drivers lack intelligence and are plain thick alot of the time along with the lack of patience.

Agreed. The amount of times I've seen cars just stop when they are right next to a traffic island and the ambulance/police/fire engine has nowhere to go...

Recently an old lady driver carried straight onto a roundabout where I was approaching from her right and she clearly looked at me, I tooted and she then stopped on the roundabout right in front of me! I hate all other drivers - present company excluded of course  It pains me to say this but over the years it seems to be German car drivers are probably the worst (company cars I suspect) young girls then older people (male and female). If that group includes you, I'm sorry, but we all know there are exceptions that prove a rule  :fuelfire:

and drivers who stop in merge or yield lanes when nothing is coming.

and people with earbuds or headphones on and can't hear the bloody sirens, and obviously never look in a mirror.

Had this exact same thing happen to us a few weeks ago with a couple of differences it was a Police car with blues and two’s blaring and at the time and we were about a car length from some traffics light that were on stop, so the idiot who overtook us in his boy racer car blocked the road completely so the police car had to manoeuvre around the wrong side of the traffic lights

I did see the Police Officer in the passenger seat gesticulate at this idiot and shout something, the two idiots in the car just laughed, total morons
