Small dent and respray options?

Patience is my middle name :)

Have been looking for the last few months and what I've discovered is that there's a lot of crap out there; mostly in need of refurbishment anyway.

Also, lets say these eBay items are good enough, and assuming I get the front bumper for a good price then that's fine but I'd still be in the same position I am now - with front and rear bumpers both needing a respray - the only difference being that I'd have shelled out for two additional bumpers of exact damage unknown condition.

The spray job is going to cost the same regardless.
 
Wow...okay, here's the latest on my quotation seeking.

Contacted three body shops so far. Specialist indy AMC of Wimbledon, MStyle of Romford and BMW dealer Stephen James of Enfield on the work needed. Here's a breakdown of response. Quite a difference and both AMC and Stephen James are telling me its a new bumper job?!

To add insult to injury AMC have the kahunas to tell me that the small 4 inch scratch on my rear bumper will require a complete rear bumper respray?! Seriously, do they honestly think I'm going to go for that? Stephen James BMW didnt even quote me for the rear scratch so Im guessing it would take the entore bill with them over the £1500 mark.

Anyway, here's the damage quoted so far. MStyle streets ahead and am yet top contact Sira Motors of Barking.

MStyle Romford
- Repair and respray front bumper £300
- Repair and respray scratch on rear bumper £120
Total £420

AMC Wimbledon
- New front bumper and paint £708
- Respray entire rear bumper £356
Total: £1064

Stephen James (Enfield)
- New front bumper £366.81
- Paint £267.82
- Labour £320.00
- New grille £33.15
- New badge £20.94
- Sundries £12.63
- Other charges £14.20
- VAT £181.21
Total: £1216.76
 
I paid £150 for a stunning respray on the front bumper (plus very minor repair) near Godstone. That was bumper off though so just for the work not fitting etc.

Let me know if you need more details and I'll dig it out.

As an aside, I've just had a little bump and cracked that circled part of my bumper. The shop says it might not be worth repairing as over time the paint could crack/crease as it flexes. Being the most forward point of the bumper It's easy to break, is this what's happened here?
 
I need a bodyshop recommendation for a front bumper respray too....had stupid quotes from BMW, and a good quote from a place I am not really keen on (young lads working from a basic garage which, although tidy, doesn't look like a bodyshop!). W / SW London....

I think a 'recommended' thread would be very useful.
 
That would be great DaveG; feel free to send across the details. From what I can see of the damage its pretty minor and should be easily rectified without a brand new front bumper. If I get it fixed and it goes wrong in the future due to flexing etc then maybe I'll do the lot through insurance, although obviously I'd rather not.

Mikedav - I'll keep you posted on my findings. Will also see if I can start a 'recommended' thread for bodywork once it's done.

Its run by one of my mates, and has done lots of work for me in the past. Has always been brilliant, and very reasonably priced. He'd need to give you a quote but based on past experience a bumper respray (cash) is about £150 ish.

He's based in Fleet, Hampshire. Not too sure how far away this is for you...

Not had anything done on the zed, but have had stuff done on previous car's, and its always been spot on. I've recommended his bodyshop to a few people now, and the feedback has always been good.

Colour matching very good. Last bit of work was on my MGF, which was in a special edition 'Mulberry' colour, which is notoriously bad to colour match, and match was great.

He does a lot of work on BMW's and gets a lot of work from the 8 Series forums. He also does a lot of restoration work on classics, so this should be a pretty straight-forward jobs as far as he's concerned.

Another bump, but John just resprayed some panels on my Zed, and polished the rest of them.

Very impressed, awesome job, and a nice guy who knows his stuff.
