Small bonnet chip - advice appreciated

Hi All

So I gave the Z4 its first decent clean in a while. I'm off to Greece for a weekend roadtrip. (And won't be online till Monday)

I know it is not a spectacular job but I am new to this and live in the Balkans! Zaino products are on their way for when I hit the UK for a holiday in October : )

Unsurprisingly given the roads here - mostly gravel and holes, I found my first bit of grim news on the bonnet. Please see below.

Looks like a stone chip to me - with perhaps a couple of ricochets underneath? (I've already had to get the windscreen sorted for a chip - wonderful)...

Can anyone give me any advice on how I should proceed on this in order to get it fixed?

thanks

You'll need a touch-up kit from the dealer - don't use the supplied brush, use a toothpick as this lets you control the amount of paint & lacquer much better.

Thanks mmm-five

How good do I have to be to make a decent hash of it? reasonably steady hand but no surgeon...

I'm assuming that it would be foolish to apply my first Zaino 'cure' before I sort this out too?

If you apply any polish/wax before you do the chip, then you're going to have to remove that polish/wax before you fill the chip - otherwise the paint in on top of the polish/wax rather than in the chip.

To steady your hand, you can simply rest it on a microfibre cloth while you're touching up the chip.Try to do it when the bodywork is cool and out of direct sunlight, otherwise the paint dries too quickly (as the touch-up paint is formulated to dray at ambient temps rather than oven temps).

You may want to invest in some paint protection film if your normal roads are full of gravel.

Many thanks mmm-five, that was what I expected.

I think my procedure will be

1 - Wash car, standard shampoo with no 'wax'
2 - Use the Claybar
3 - Apply the touch up
4 - Use the Zaimo system

I think there is some paint protection in the order I made already but I will look into that.

Thanks for the advice

Recommend the Halfords kit much better for application due to the Rotring pen style better than the BMW kit with monster brush and colour match is as good i have both.

Thanks for that Gaza, I didn't realise that the standard outlets would have colour matched touch up available. I will go and take a look at it when I get back to the UK.
