Slow Punture....again!! :(

So it has happened again.... same wheel, a slow puncture on the back left of the zed. I had a nail in it 4 months ago and paid £280 to replace it.

Run flats have been nothing but a pain since I've had them. I've never had a puncture or any issues until I got this zed. Sometimes I don't think its worth it as it seems to attract more nails, makes the drive worse and uses up more fuel.

Any suggestions of what I should do? Replace it or attempt to get it repaired (I don't know how extensive the damage is)?

I'm thinking of replacing all the tyres and just getting normal ones put on, has anyone got non run flats on theirs that they could recommend please?

Thanks,

From a soon to be broke zed owner :(

I had similar issue on a TT turned out the wheel was slightly buckled or flat spotted cant remember witch. But i was losing sir through the beading.

Found it by filling the bath and putting the wheel in and rotating it. (I waited until the wife went out to do it)

Official line is that RFT's shouldn't be repaired, however I found a couple of local tyre fitters that were prepared to do it, as it turns out mine was totally sh@gged anyway when it was removed from the wheel, ring around, I'd be inclined to think a small indy tyre place would do a repair rather than a national tyre chain.

They can be repaired....but you need to be sure the alloy isn't cracked. In my opinion, cracked wheels are major cause of escaping air in tyres

+1. I have had my run flats repaired. As long as it has not been driven flat (and a slow puncture sounds like not) the same rules apply as a normal repair. £10 v £280.

I have had no problems at all.

i had my run flat repaired. it had a nail in it after 4k miles

since the repair, i've done another 12k miles on it with no issues whatsoever

thanks for the replies, I'm getting it checked tomorrow and hopefully it is repairable.

If the alloys are cracked I will kick up a fuss with BMW to sort it out since the car is only 7 months old

Let us know how you get on.

Managed to get it repaired for £15!

It was the smallest nail which hadn't punctured the "run flat wall" so the guy said it's an easy fix. Did it in 20 mins and hopefully it will last...

The bigger concern is the tyre places when they take the tyres off and not damaging the wheel
Fully agree, run flats are not the easiest to remove from rims. I have just recently had a puncture repaired, I couldn't watch

OP: Pleased you got sorted

Escaping air is also down to the sidewall of the alloy corroding over time - they all do it eventually & a full acid dip refurb is one of the few ways to reseal them.

Did u find a nail/screw or was it just loosing air?

Found the nail, it was really small so air was slowly escaping. I had a look at the alloys and they seemed fine - only 7 months old.

These guys were really good and professional and they have a lot of experience with run flats but I did get scared watching them remove the tyre haha. Lots of odd noises!

A few people I know with BMW's recommended them as they have done repairs/replacements for them over the years so hopefully this repair will last!

Cheers everyone

must be the day for it, I had a collapsed valve on the front tyre today, had to drive 10 miles with the tyres pretty flat, so destroyed that and had to throw away a 6mm left tyre...
