Slight shudder on tick over!

Car seems to shudder, vibrate on tick over but only when the roof is down.No other problems present.

The roof shouldn’t effect the engine like that, maybe it’s the roof itself vibrating & not the engine?

Thanks for that, there is a definite vibration ,I can feel it through the seat back , so may be roof when down.

If it’s this is that not a symptom of failing/failed salmon relays. Maybe worth checking them and seeing if they’re originals?

Hmm could be...there’s not much mechanical behind the driver to make that sort of noise / vibration

I doubt it’s the motor running on, they melt & burst into flames after a few minutes if they haven’t flattened the battery first from what I’ve read

If the battery is 2011 then chances being that these will need changing also, worth it for an extra £30..... maybe when new E89 owners introduce themselves we should send them a list of what possibly needs looking at/changing in the first few weeks of ownership

Could it be a coil pack going down, lowering the roof puts a bit more load on the alternator, the revs pick up and the problem goes away.
My colleagues car, a coil went at 12k miles.

Certainly that could explain a short term phenomenon...the hydraulic motor takes a tremendous amount of power from the battery which the alternator will want to replenish...but...after a few minutes (maybe 2?) that job would be done...if it’s a sustained period then..?

I’m not sure if the DME is doing something to the engine revs as it knows when the roof is down?

Amazing response, car is 65reg and done only 3800mls when I got it end of Oct. I'm thinking the roof asn't been used alot . Could it relate to that?Will check out your suggestions. Thanks!
