slight rumbling from rear

Hey guys, my second post today seeking the wisdom of the Zed Oracle.... :)

I've become aware of a faint "wa-wa-wa-wa-wa-wa-wa-wa" rumbling sound from the rear of my Zed. I think nearside. It is definitely there and definitely speed related. It is quiet and has not got worse since I have had the car in which I have done 2000 miles in two months. But there it is and nothing to do with the temp wheels I have on since it did it with my own wheels too (which are being refurbed). I have had springs and new disks/pads on the rear done and it did it before those too.

I know difficult to make suggestions but whaddaythink? Wheel bearing maybe? After 40k miles only though? Hoe does that stack up £££££ wise?
 
I'd put money on it being a wheel bearing. Not an urgent one - you can do a few thousand miles on a bad wheel bearing - they're designed such that the wheel can't fall off ha! Get it done if it annoys you but bear in mind some garages won't change one until it's obvious which side it is...

Just a thought I had a similar noise on my car for a long time It was definitely on the rear .
I had it in the garage and they couldn't find anything wrong was told its very hard to diagnose till they are real bad so i had them replace both rear wheel bearings just in case .
Still I could hear it , turns out it was the tyre's I could hear being sat above the rear axle .
Lesson learnt and wallet battered . :cry:
Good thing to come out of it is I now have a good reliable garage who I can trust . :thumbsup:
 
Hi Greg, that is true, you are sitting on the rear axle pretty much in the Zed whereas in other cars like my 640 the rear wheels are half a mile behind :lol: Thanks for your thoughts, I will keep an eye (or ear rather) on it.
May I ask how much it cost to replace the bearings anyway? I would be surprised and a tad disappointed if they had worn out after only 42000 miles. I've did 130k in a 520D and no issues at all. BMW bearings are very reliable in general.

I was charged £320 all in that was also with the rear drop links as they had seized .
The rear drive shafts have to be taken off so it's more labour intensive.
My car had only done about 37000 .
Ohhhhhhhh 640 very nice :thumbsup: I did have a look a the 630 convertible but struggled to find one in the right spec n low miles in my budget .
