Slight leak of oil...

Been working late this week and the other half bad noticed some drops of oil on the drive where I park the car, I can't exactly work out where it's coming from i did take a pic last night of what looked like the area, any ideas before I take it to the garage?

looks like it maybe you rocker cover gasket, not a big job to do yourself and a new gasket is around £80.

anyone else any thoughts?

Should say that it's underneath that area where i circled, directly underneath the M logo on the cover kind of thing but at the front on the engine block

looks like the vanos seal..... nothing major but these do leak, even my very low miler had alittle weep from their.

May have to take this to my Indy then and let them have a look at it, would you say it's safe to drive until I can get it booked in?

The leak in that area can also be from the oil filter gasket. Should be safe to drive if it's just a minor leak.

I've got a small leak from the oil filter gasket but it doesn't look that bad. I reckon vanos seals.

The leak in that area can also be from the oil filter gasket. Should be safe to drive if it's just a minor leak.

I shall investigate that later if it is something simple i will do it myself

I've had that a few years ago. The whole front of the engine covered in gunk, not that severe though. It was caused by a weeping vanos seal gasket. Took about 4 hours for the stealers to replace.

Not sounding stupid but what would/could i replace in a vanos service and can i source it all myself? Or can my Indy do it all?

Can you clean up the area completely and see exactly where the leak is from?

Got in from work and thought i would have a better look, will take bits off and give it the best clean i can to see where the oil is coming from, more pics with handy work. Red is the area where it seems to be coming from yellow is the same pipe.

Can you clean all the surrounding area off with gunk or brake cleaner and then run car?

I wish I could say, I think it's new and old gunk, im going to try and give it a good cleanup tomorrow and see what happens when it's run, there's maybe 4/5 drops on the drive so it's not gushing out and there's no drips i can see on the bottom of the engine either, i just went over it with a rag and it only got abit mucky. Explained it to my Indy over the phone and he said it sounds like vanos area. He can't have it till the monday after next though.

It might be worth checking the tightness of the bolts in the area thats seeping the oil. :idunno:
