It looks like some d*ckhead has opened their car door onto my passenger side door leaving a small paint chip and slight dent!

Its only tiny but I wondered what was the best thing to do to it? Are the touch up pens your can get from halfords any good or is there something better?

I havent got a photo but i'll try and get one up if that helps!

cheers

matt

I had a dent on my rear wing and the paint had come off (leaving with undercoat).

I used dent devils and it cost me £50 and the job was great and took 30mins. The guy pressed the dent out and used a t-cut like product to sort the paint damage. I knew they could sort the dent but was genuinely amazed that he sorted the paint work. I am very fussy about stuff like the and the repair was immaculate and the benefit of this over chips away was that it kept my paint warranty valid as there had been no respray.

Incidently BMW quoted my c.£300 to respray the entire rear wing!

I don't know what wonder product they used to restore missing paint, but unless it was a scratch or chip then you'd have a problem trying to 'T-Cut' it out, as that type of product is only cutting into the paint around the scratch/chip and filling the scratch/chip with the paint it's removed from elsewhere.

What did he do to replace all the clear coat that he's removed with this 'T-Cut' product?

BTW as of 01-Jan-2004, the paint warranty is for 3 years and the anti-corrosion warranty is for 12 years (although that only covers corrosion coming from the inside out). Any repairs have to use BMW approved parts, including paints.

Your scepticism is fair because I thought the same before he fixed it. I honestly don't know what wonder product it was but I believed it to be t-cut-esque. Now that I think about it, it was weird because when he'd finished he healed some lepers and turned old engine oil to wine.....

However, in all seriousness all I do know is that it was well over a year ago and it still looks immaculate and requires no special treatment to the rest of the bodywork. I am happy with the outcome and would recommend you get them to take a look, the worst that can happen is they say they can't do anything.

Also, I much prefered his solution; rather than filling the dent with paint which I understand to be the chips away method. Happy to be corrected on that though.

I would suggest then that you had no paint damage - no chip as such and it was paint removed from another car?

from their website:
Providing the paintwork is not damaged and we can gain access behind the dent, Dent Devils will remove minor dents without affecting your car's original factory finish

Yes it was that info from their website that made me think they couldn't help but the guy said he'd take a look and if he could do something he would I nearly didn't bother calling him because of that info.

I am certain it wasn't from another car but I can't say for sure exactly what it was. It didn't look like transfer to me and none of the 4 people who I had look at it suggested it was.

To be clear it wasn't acres of paint - we're talking 1cm diameter dent max so perhaps some of you guys are imagining something more extreme (?) but Matt hasn't been specific about the size of the damage so it may or may not be appropriate.

But I thought it worth a mention and was just trying to help... I'd post photos but all it would show is a pristine wing which isn't terribly convincing as I have no before shot.

thanks for the info - it seems like i have something similar as the dent is probably less than 1cm diameter so this may do the trick!
