Slash wound on my precious Z4 :(

A thief has destroyed my Z4 soft top.

He/She slashed open my soft top around 80cm long and get into my car from top side and stole some items in the car.

I have a quick fix on the wound, the mechanic did a patch work, stitched it then glued it to the soft top.
It only costs me USD15 dollars to do this and it helped to protect my car from rain, but this is only a temporary fix.

I cant fold down my soft top since the mechanic said i wont be able to fold it back up.

I am in search of soft top replacement now and also hard top for safety reason. Has anyone experienced the same problem and how did you manage it? Is there a more cost effective way to redo the softop, the mechanical system is still in good condition, i was thinking if there is any workshop that can redo the canvas work nicely at minimal cost. I am spending a lot of money for the hard top already, and not willing to spend money on soft top, as I have feeling that it will happen again. I am moving home, this area is not too safe.

Appreciate your input. Thanks !

sorry to hear that, some people are just pathetic

perhaps you could get a soft top at lower cost second hand from a scrap/breakers yard?

The fabric is not expensive, about £270. No need to change the roof mechanism itself.

pvr, i didnt realise you could change just the fabric so thats good to know

im sure i read somewhere on here that they would only sell you the whole roof.

does that include the window also?

Yes, includes window. On my previous Z, the dealer washed the car against my wishes and therefore replaced the roof (just the fabric which includes the window).

i often joke that the coupe is much better than the roadster, but times like these are not jokey moments, sorry to hear your trouble

Best of both worlds in an E89

Sorry to the OP

Its good to know you can just get the fabric bit, much cheaper than having to replace the whole thing. Note to us all, don't leave anything on show in the car!!!

Gutted for you something i worry about all the time

Would be even more gutted if i was you as i was in Malaysia last year Mallaca and KL and felt very safe such nice people apart from some of the British living in KL
