Sky HD Problems - No series link

Ok a list of football leagues and championships this year on Sky, cant give times and dates and stuff as this is a weekly upload which is available on Sky's website.

Champions League - Premiership - FA Cup - Carling Cup(shared rights with BBC) - SPL - Scottish Cup (Proper Fitba :poke: ) - Championship - Football League - Scottish Home Internationals - ROI Home Internations - Wales Home International - European U21 Championship Finals - South American World Cup Qualifiers - Centenery Shield - Irish League - La Liga - Womans FA Cup - Copa Del Rey(this is the Spanish Cup) - Hyundai A-League - Masters Football? - As for England away Internationls, the rights are sold by the host association, i.e. if England play Germany in Germany the German FA (DFB) sell the rights to a UK broadcaster. Sky pretty much own most of these rights anyway as they have signed an agreement with most of the FA's across europe.

The world cup is on ITV and as earlier posted this will be available in HD (result).
Get a fair amount of matches on ESPN but that is a seperate subscription on top of Sky sports but if you have or take sky sports you get a slight discount on it, Worth it if you follow Bundas league.
Remember if you do take HD subscription from Sky it costs £10 p/m on top of your viewing subscription, again as posted earlier only really worth it if you have Movies or Sports package.
TBH Wondermike, if you do not existingly have an HD telly but are considering getting one, might be worthwhile having a look at the new realease HD 3D ready tellys as 3D is the next thing.

Hope some of this has been of help.

I had a look at a 3d demo in Harrods and it looked awful to me. I.e. the viewing angle was that you had to sit straight in front of it, any angle to the side and it was worthless.

Never seen it on a telly, it's quite stunning at the pictures (saw avatar in 3D, not the best movie in the world but the 3D effect was stunning) but i think your right PVR, would tend to imagine would only be worth it if have something like a 60" screen or projection, but like i said never seen it on a telly.

Been toying with SkyHD, think I'll wait a while yet by the sounds of it.

We have the Movie channels but no sports. IMO there has not been anything worth watching on the sports channels since they stopped showing British Superbikes live a few years ago, I did miss not being able to the Twickenham Internationals though but just not worth the money for half a dozen games a year, maybe they could find a way to extend the pay per view for things like that, the person on the other end of phone always mentions you won't be able to watch the football if you cancel your subscription and always seem shocked when I tell them I could'nt care less if football was never on TV again.

On a slightly different topic any recommendations on a Blu Ray player, I've been thinking of getting a Sony BDP S760 with Multi region DVD and a LED TV of some description.

Have you tried the usual switch off at the wall so box is completely dead i.e no lights on the front, leave off for two mins then reboot?

Just out of interest, Sky have sort of admitted problems with the early Thompson HD boxes, and at the moment are sending out mail shots to people with these, offering a upgrade to the new 1.5tb hard drive (1tb for you and .5tb for anytime, etc) self install for £149

have oredered mine today :D

Had one of the first SKY HD boxes when they came out and have been having trouble with it for around 3 months! Last week I got one of the new SKY HD terarbite boxes. Like a different connection now! No missed recordings, screen breakups and the picture looks even clearer! They are doing an upgrade to exsisting long tome SKY HD customers of £100 off the new box.

I tried that box before it even came out, but as I have a Prof. range plasma screen - they do not work with that.

yes - it has a dedicated HDMI connection.

As it is from the "hand picked" professional range, all equipment that interfaces to it has to be "exact" and no sloppy engineering or HDMI standards are tolerated (i.e. you would not get any picture at all).

I tried all the sky HD boxes that were available, well - Sky did. Good engineer I had as well, he knew about the problem rather then the call centre that was just brushing it under the carpet. The only box that was good enough to produce a picture was the Amstrad one believe it or not.

The screen is due the (free) calibration now so will check at that stage what the experiences are today with the Sky HD boxes (my experience is 5 months old now).

What make and model of screen do you have? Sounds like the tv has a handshaking problem over the hdmi connection. A standard is a standard so the interfaces should be no different. I have a professionally calibrated Panasonic TH42-PD8 which is a professional screen and have never had hdmi issues. I currently connect my Sky HD box via component simply because I don't have enough hdmi inputs on my amp but I haven't found any difference in the picture when I did have it via hdmi. Is your box old enough to still have component outputs?

No, I did not buy component output interface card for the plasma. I only bought the HDMI card.

Standard is indeed standard, but it is like diesel engines. Old sloppy engines can take any fat to run on, whilst a highly tuned BMW diesel engine would not be able to do so.

Problem is that cheaper products don't fully comply with he HDMI standard.

It seems that some of the Pace boxes have handshake issues with some tv's but the older Thomson boxes do not. Which one is yours? Is your plasma a panel or a tv? It sounds like mine in that you pick the connections you want and therefore there's no speakers? If so how do you manage sound - i.e is some processing going on via an amp - maybe it is that which is having handshaking issues?
I also read that some Pioneer plasmas had issues with the HDCP content from Sky HD boxes when they were launched but that's years ago.
