SkiPi - All in one car "module" project thread

I've already got a Pi3 sat on my living room floor - you walked past it yesterday ;)

I'm currently trying to get airplay to work right with iOS10, as apple decided to be bumders.
I'm also working on getting a touchscreen and a display working on it so that those looking to do the satnav replacement option can just do this instead, which is way better than having to buy a phablet.
It'll also work for those with a working satnav, using the tv-in port on their existing satnav.

lots and lots of work has been going on with skipi - it's far from dead, but it's not in a position where I'd be comfortable giving it to people who don't fully understand Linux, the pi architecture, and the car's own electronics.
(basically, it's not as plug-and-play as I want it to be right now)

Having not heard from you in months. You ignoring my calls
I have seen you twice in one day in the virtual world. I have had enough of you now

Good to see you back buddy. I am going to want all of this stuff in my car soon. Plus your coding skils when i ditch my electric steering rack.

Do i have a favor in the bag after helping with your exhaust???

Yay you will have to pop down for a weekend and play with cars buddy. My workshop is quite something now. Spray booth 2 post lift milling machine lathe tyre fitting equipment. I know you had a few jobs to do last time we spoke. Still got them? Also when are you sending me that diff to build for you?

Me and the wife have a baby due any day now so I doubt i will have much time this side of Christmas.

Thanks buddy.

Well let the dust settle and let me swap my steering rack. And then pop down for a day or two. We will see what we can get done. I have a few codding jobs. And if you get this kangaroo pie working you can fit that in my car too. While i mess with the mechanical on yours.

What specifically are you looking at getting done? Diff i guess can you get that to me so i can build it for you.

stuff to get done off the top of my head

fix propshaft leak / change tranny oil
swap out handbrake latching mechanism
install diff
change rear wheel bearings
change bushes
build seat rails
move roof motor to boot
fix problem with rear bumper alignment under driver rear light
fit front fogs
fit 3rd brakelight
sort roof fabric
respray steering wheel plastics
change rockerhead gasket
change oil filter housing gasket
fix the fucking wind noise from the windows

basically, it's a list of niggles I'm sorting over the weekend before a massive euro road trip next year.

Welcome to come use our facility's mate I have done my roof motor so can help out a bit. We also have a 25 ton hydraulic press that will help with the bushes

And welding and fabricating stuff for the rails.

finally got a fully operational touchscreen that fits inside the box, mounted, and 100% working.
just need to put it all back together now, finalize the raspberry pi setup, then start debugging the car interface

maybe this Christmas? :fuelfire:

Hello, guys.

I'm on the same way as Ian.
Already did the factory satnav replacement to an android tablet, created a custom pcb board which fits into the frame (it lays in the android phablet actually - its battery had been removed to avoid any damages during hot sunny days.)

This PCB handles Kbus messages (rx, tx works fine).
Now my Zed can open the doors once I turn the engine off (this is something that these cars were not able to to by themselves).
I also have a remote top module installed which I would remove but then I need the Kbus codes to operate the top.
I could do it for myself but I have discovered this thread, so if someone has access I'd appreciate the Kbus codes which can open/close the top.

Just for making myself serious.. ;)

Cheers

You could try srhutch on here as I believe he gave SK the roof info originally

What's the deal with this project? Was a pi image ever released along with links where to buy the parts or all turned out to be bs?
4 years later n nothing seems all talk to me

:? ALL of the patience! May I advise that a little courtesy goes a long way. The project was not a full time job but something that was done in the spare hours around a busy life. Something that we can probably all relate to?

I did see a working version of this on sk93 car at zedfest a few years ago, it wasn't complete but looked very promising, but sk93 hasn't been active on the forum now for 2years .
So unless someone else has a go

Well if we had the pi image then maybe we could yes. I wouldn't know how to start from scratch but if I had something to go on then yeah I'm all for it.
