SkiPi - All in one car "module" project thread

Looks interesting!

Did the DAB module arrive then? Initial thoughts?

How are you planning on outputting any relevant data?

it did, and it's working fine, so far, using some linux software.
need to do some more digging into how it actually works before I can be sure exactly how it'll appear once in the car.
idea is that the station name will be on the radio, buttons 1-6 will be favourites, and the next track/prev track will navigate the available stations..

A quick Google reveals 'not a lot'. I shall be keeping an eye on this

does state the cost in the initial post :P

Oops - sorry. If this can replace my intravee and gaptech I'd be very interested. I am getting vexed disconnecting things and not fixing the issues I have, which I am sure are linked to one of them.

that's the plan.. one box to rule them all..

no more gaptech, smarttop, intravee, mediabridge, etc  :driving:

That's good to hear!

How are you planning on converting the i/k bus to a HID?

This would be my absolute number 1 mod if you can pull this off.

Would it help if forum members leant their various gaptech, intravee, smart top bits to receive commands and copy?

(I don't have any but I'd happily volunteer other peoples' stuff) :poke:

yes and no...
if they can lend the modules, then that's awesome.
if they can't, but can send me some navcoder/intravee logs of the data flowing around on the buses when they do something with a module, that'll help too!!

Not sure what you mean?

You said use buttons 1-6 as presets and the mfsw to cycle though other stations.

I assume this is also for the DAB radio via the Pi, so my question was how do you take the canbus signal and convert it for the Pi to understand (would it be as a Human Interface Device, similar to a keyboard?)

ah.. no. no HID conversion needed
I'd be writing a custom app to control the DAB tuner via the usb drivers, and would be able to send that commands from the canbus app
I'll likely use the tcp/ip stack on a local port to do this, but that's not decided yet.

This sounds very interesting... been thinking about doing something like this for a long time, but my programming skills are lacking!

I'd love to have the talent to pull something like this off, hats off to you sir. I'll be watching this with interest!

Thanks to srhutch, I've now cracked remote open / close (ala GapTech RCH)

At present, I'm just firing off the codes via NavCoder, but I aim to have a python script for it to operate from the Pi shortly!

So.. that's £89.99 saved already. woop woop!

Hi Ian,

This sounds awesome and like a nice little business venture. I don't have the programming skills, but I do have cash !! When this is cracked I would happily pay for this functionality.

Hats off and good luck ...

James
