Ski Hatch

So I never thought I would ask this as I never thought I would be putting skis in my zed, but it turns out I will be!
Glad I ticked that comfort pack option!

Anyone used it either on the g29 or e89?
The hatch looks quite small and I will need to get 2 sets of skis through it.
What’s the best way to load it?
Do I use the skis bare or have the ski case which is quite big?

Any advice on past use would be helpful.

Have Ski hatch in my E89.
The access does appear big enough for 2 pairs of ski's.

Not tested though, but is very handy for my fishing rods :D

As an update, I tried it with one set of skis in a small bag and it went through ok. They were 176cm skis and had to manoeuvre them in.
Not sure how 2 will fit it. Certainly in another case I can’t see it fitting.
Will know more next week when my sons skis arrive.

You can always fold the roof down to transport long item

Not a solution during the winter on the motorway with my son in the car.

I can probably get 2 skis through if I don’t have a case on them, but then there is risk of scratching car surfaces. I’ll try and figure it out.

Love skiing. ;)

I had 2m skis in my 28i which had the hatch and it took them and bindings no problem. Don't think 2 sets would fit unless you remove the bindings and refit them when you arrive.

Wherever your going, rear wheel drive should be fun???

Did you use a case on the skis or just put them in as is?

Funny thing is, I’m only using it to go to the snow dome in Hemel at the moment.
We went skiing back in feb and are booked for next year in France (La plagne 2100).
We are flying so will be a taxi to airport anyway.

However we go almost weekly to snowdome so need to figure out a good way to load the skis into the car regularly without damaging car or skis. Hence I’d love to find out how you loaded yours.

If I was driving to France, I’d need winter tyres and probably chains and it just becomes cheaper to fly.

I use my hatch all the time, but for my ice hockey sticks... The guys at hockey were amazed when I rocked up and pulled my kit bag out of the boot and then reached in and pulled my sticks out too... I'd have probably not purchased the car if I couldn't get my kit in  Good luck with the skies!

No bags just skis.
Just choose good weather when you go and have the roof down. Simples

I made a post before on the system in the e89 with photos - https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1654519#p1654519

You will get 2 pairs without a bag. There is a holders to lock them into at the back of the car you clip it in. All in the post.

[ref]Pyranha[/ref], thanks for that. I don’t think there is a ski holder bar in the g29, but I’ll have a look under the boot cover. Who knows?

[ref]Pyranha[/ref], well, I’ve had a look and there isn’t a ski holder rack anywhere so not sure how you secure the skis in place on the g29. Will try the genius!

Confirmed. Only 1 set of long skis fit in the g29. Maybe short skis you can get two sets, but my 176cm can only fit one pair.

Funny you say that just now. This weekend i am in Newmarket for the races, then in Milton Keynes checking out
SNOZONE. See if can arrange a works jolly boys outing in the summer. (Wanted to check it out first) :D

There is always a jolly boys outing to the snow dome in Dubai if you really want to go for it?

You can even stay in a chalet on the slopes.

Have not stayed there but visited and amazing.
