Ski Hatch Wont Open

I collected my first Z4 yesterday. Loving it. The N54 engine is a peach.

First issue I have come across is that the ski hatch is jammed and wont open. It feels like the latch is locked but there is no keyhole so I'm guessing it is seized. I can see from the boot that it has the small shelf system behind it which I'd love to be able to access.

Has anyone had this problem and know of a fix? I'm reluctant to apply too much force as I'd prefer it to be seized than broken!

Can’t help with the ski hatch but mine has a door that drops down inside the cabin which has 3 small shelves inside, just big enough to store some small bottles of water or cans.

Thanks for the reply.

Yea it’s a small drop down door and behind it is the shelf unit which I’ve seen by leaning into the boot and in clipping it. The previous owner had left a small hair brush in there. Maybe he/she was a hair dresser 😀

Trouble is, I can’t open the door so the shelves are un-useable. Quite frustrating. Have tried forcing it but with no luck. The handle won’t budge, like it is locked closed.

This can be repaired without replacing the complete unit. I will post a link for a repair instruction soon...

No photos are required, cause the issue is always the same: a very small spring has left it's dedicated position.

Fantastic, thanks a lot mate.

I'll now have a long think about whether I am brave enough to attempt this repair. The last thing I want is the door being stuck open due to me messing up the repair. And maybe if I fix it I may not even use it :o

It sounds as if it's in back to front. :?

I think what he means is by unclipping the plate in the boot, the shelves are visible. Actually the shelves are fixed to the plate.

When I bought my car I found some parts in the boot. Took me a while to figure out what they were but it's the original set up which I'd prefer. Unfortunately only one shelf is there.

I have no use for a ski bag, or Transport Sack as BMW calls it, storage would be more useful.
Looking for shelf info now.
Sorry can't help with door problem, mine is fine..... on the rare occasion I've opened it. I stuffed my owners manual in there

Hey Robbie, I managed to fix my ski hutch using the thread you shared, thanks a lot.

I now have somewhere to store my sunglasses.

I went through 3 springs as they kept disappearing down inside the hutch door. Had to steal them out of the pens in my kids pencil cases.

Thanks again.
