Mixing is a little bit untidy in places.... will teach me to do this after a few beers in the pub... :drinking:

(PS: will take about another 30 minutes after this posting for the file to be live on my file server... just in case a few people are quick off the mark!)

Nice one Andy!

Are you taking requests?

If so, can we have some more like the first one you posted too please?

Soulful is good... but the first one was better for driving to! :D

Lawnmowerman, the Jacking House one I did? Can probably dig out some tracks to do another :) Don't buy too much of that stuff though, but will see what I can do ;)

Rick, glad you liked it :D

Please 'splain your process to a guy that has no clue.

Your mix helped me apply 1 coat of Z2pro this morning. Thanks!!

'Box - that's the one!

And is there a back catalogue we should look out for from the pre-Z4-forum days...? :)

Also, we ought to arrange another meet before the weather gets too bad so I can see the latest mods...

LOL - there might be a back catalogue somewhere.. I've got some of my old mixes lying around, so I'll link a few up a bit later.

Definately up for a pre-xmas meet! Want to name a time/place?

You should be able to right-click on the link in my first post and save the .MP3 file. Then just drag the file to your iTunes library window and it should copy it in there...

If you can't find it once you've added it to iTunes, then I usually find sorting your library by "date added" helps, and obviously it'll be the first track in the list then. I don't think I put any Tags in the MP3 file, so you'll have to add the Title, Artist etc information yourself.

Btw, what did you mean by "my process" in your last post, mr ducks?

Thanks for how to save the file.

The process means what do you start with, how do you mix and when do you decide you have your final mix?

Well, as you asked... and since I've got some time to kill whilst I've got to wait for a phone call from one of our network providers... (don't you love out-of-hours on-call!):

I mix all my stuff on CDs. Always have and always will. Most traditional vinyl DJs tend to scoff at this, although it has become a lot more widely accepted in the last few years since some of the big-name DJs have learnt how to exploit the advantages of CD mixing (loops, sampling etc). I picked up mixing on CD as it's just how I fell into it. A mate was selling some old CD decks about 8 years or so ago now, and I had a larger collection of dance music I liked on CD than vinyl, so it made sense to practice on that. As it turned out, I picked the DJing thing up, but then found I had to buy a lot of my tracks on vinyl since they weren't getting released on CD anyway. So I'd buy the records and rip them to the PC, and burn the tracks onto CD disc. It's a bit easier these days, as a lot of the dance music labels have embraced the web and sell their tracks in MP3 format. Obviously the main advantages are that you can fit a lot more tracks onto a small shiny disc, which if you're out gigging (which I don't do much these days - although did for a while) you can carry a huge library of music with you, which wouldn't be possible lugging vinyl around!

On the equipment side, I have two Numark CDX1s:

and a Pioneer DJM-600 mixer:

Although the Numark decks play CDs, they actually act a lot like a typical vinyl deck. They're clever little things and it means you can scratch and cue up the tracks exactly like you would a vinyl record, but loop, sample and manipulate the music (if you want to) like you can with a CD deck.

As far as the mixes go, I just do them on the fly really. I'll have a rough idea of tracks I want to play, but in no particular order, and I'll usually add or change tracks as I go. The mixer is connected to my PC through the PC's line-in jack on the soundcard, and I use Adobe Audition to record the mix. I decided to try and keep this mix around the hour mark, so it was simply a case of mixing enough tunes together to fill 60 minutes of music. Nothing much else to it really!

Obviously the technique of mixing the tunes together is where the art comes into it. It helps to know a bit about the way music is "built", the timings, and how music is split into bars etc... If you want me to go into it a bit more then just say and I'll find some info and/or put up a post tomorrow.

Perhaps next time I do a mix, I'll record it with video or something so you can see what goes on. :)

There are a few of us but I believe the intensity of joy makes up for the numbers. Sixspeed is quite the celebrity in my book.

Your technology is awesome! Since I just finished the aux mod, I need to download it to I-tunes. Thanks for the great music.

I should really do another of these soon... i'll see if I can get something done this weekend :)

Glad you liked it :)

20ducks, I can assure you I'm not :D Just a regular guy who gets bored easily, and has too many distractions... lol!
