Sixth gear

The 3.0i has a 6 speed gearbox, right ? Will yours rev slightly lower than the Si as it is a different engine with lower power output ? Honest (stupid) question as I don't know the answer.

But there is more the like 0.5k rpm difference between 5th and 6th on mine. I tend to stay in 6th at anything over 30mph :lol:

The gear ratio's are difference in a coupe to a roadster though.

But 3k rpm is more like 85mph on my manual.

70 mph in 6th is 2600rpm for my manual, stock tyre sizes. By way of extrapolation, I reckon I can hit 155 in 5th just before redline. The 6th gear ratio (0.85:1) is not really any different than the top gear in a 5 speed box, and 1st is only marginally lower. Thus the total gear range is no different than a 5 speed, rather each gear is closer to the adjacent ones. There's less than 1000rpm difference between every gear except 1-2.

I believe the concept of the 6 speed is you're more likely to find the right gear for the conditions, not to provide some super overdrive for efficient motorway cruising.

Checked mine on the way home and the same.

Good point you made about the closer gear ratios as I have been wondering for a while that 1st to 2nd feels a bit short on my 6 speed compared to 5 speed boxes in my other performance cars. :thumbsup:
 
Yep, i'm similar most of these replies. Mine's a 3.0i on stock RFs, and i get around 2700 at 70mph and it only just touches 3000 at 80mph. Still lots of pull in 6th too, it's great :driving:

Also been on the motorway and agree that it's about 2750 @ 70mph. Still too high IMO, especially as it's so close to 5th gear, literally a couple of hundred RPM difference. Pointless really, it could have been a really useful overdrive gear like autos have.
