I think this has to be on my list of play thing cars when I'm ready to change.

I was lookin at one which is for sale on the way back from the outlaws in York today, very nice it was :driving:

Go and try - you'll be hooked!
I ordered mine last year on a whim and fancy for an end of the line car - no test drives, all from the computer screen. I have to admit to being sceptical when the salesman told me they were a step change from my 2010 3.0 E89 - but he was right !

Our Z4 is only one of 4 road cars we have between 2 of us, its a Sunday and sunny days play thing, to be honest if we went for it we would have to have it as one of our main cars purely for financial reasons, its a bit extravagant to have and sit there over the winter and not use it. And it just depreciate, our Z4 2005 2.2 SE probably wont loose any more than it already has, it only stands me at 4k and 57k miles so apart from any mods upgrades etc we could probably sell it for the same price in a few years if we wanted too, I don't think we could say the same for a 35is :)

I wanted a 35is for a while and when BMW came to the end af the production run, a now or never decision had to be made. I decided to ditch two perfectly good cars for the new one .
A waste of money? yes but it's a cracker and is a step change from previous Z4 s that I've had.
Ours sits in the garage Nov : Apr and we manage with the one car between us during that time .

Now that is a waste. I drove mine all year round without problem and only avoided snow. They are pretty well protected against corrosion these days so a normal cleaning regime should keep it in great condition. After 3 years and ~ 30k miles apiece both mine only had the odd stone chip here and there - no sign of corrosion anywhere.

It'll be a goodun to buy when I kick the bucket!

I will be putting a good few miles on during the next few weeks - my wife and I are off to Germany on the 31st July.
It will have about 5 or 6k on the clock by the time November comes. Low miles but mainly dry and no short trips.

That was a very interesting post/review , I have also owned 2 e89 35is and my conclusions would be pretty much the same. I really did like my e89's and I enjoyed every second of ownership but if im honest my boxster 981 gts is a better 'sports' car

Thanks for the great review - as I currently thinking about the next car. And the option I am considering 35is, the new Z4 30i, or M4.

Great review OP.

IMHO a review from someone who bought one with their own hard-earned and kept it some time is much more helpful that a road test in a magazine that got loaned one for a week or so!

Enjoy the Mustang. (One day............)!
