Six-speed 2.5 v 3.0

Hi to all,

After being forced to sell my Z4 this summer, I hope to soon be back in the market for a replacement. One question I have regards the fuel economy of the 2.5 v 3.0. Thanks to these fine forums I gather there's very little in it, mainly due to the 3.0 having the extra gear. But am I right in thinking 2.5's could be specced with a six-speed manual too from the 2006 facelift onwards? I guess this would make it a more obvious gap economy-wise.
My heart says go for another 3.0 again, but if a six-speed 2.5 is noticeably better on fuel I could well be tempted...

Any thoughts welcome.

The 2.5si does have six-speed, but as far as i can make out from this forum, no benefit in fuel economy over the 3.0. Not sure how the 3.0si fares.

All prefacelift 2.5's and 2.2 had a 5 speed... Fuel economy on motorway journeys about the same as a 3.0.

I think all facelift cars, inc the 2.0 have a 6 speed.

I've a facelift 2.5si... it's a great all-round car. I average 33MPG from mine, which includes giving it a thrash every now & again, but generally i'm either town or 70 on the motorway, so quite near the combined figure.

I reckon (And i'm not exactly sure what the perfect economy speed on these cars is) that i'd get over 40MPG on a long motorway trip taking it a steady 65 mph.

I think all facelift cars were 6 speed werent they?

Not sure about the 3.0si....
