Hi Everyone,

So..here's my current "Dilema"..I'm deciding whether i want to tint the rear windows of my Z4 coupe.
I've be deliberating for some time now and still can't decide. Just wanted to see what the general concensus is.
Here are my thoughts so far:

Reasons To:
-Car gets a bit hot in the sun (i know the difference will be minimal)
-Makes the car look a bit more aggressive.
-Stops those opportunist scumbags having a butchers at what may or may not be in my boot. Golf clubs etc....

Reasons Not to:
-Contrast of tinted back / clear front may look odd.
-I like the "clean" look of no tints also
-Night vision through the rear-view may be non existent.

So guys what are your thoughts??? Any pics are of course always welcome.

I'd go for it. I had all of mine tinted and it looks great. Looks really good on the Coupe.

Hey Lucy, yeah yours does look good...my only issue with doing the fronts is that i already get enough attention from the old 5 - 0.

FYI - Mine is Space Grey.

Do it all and to the darkest legal tint. I have it on an x5 and it looks way better than clear glass but attracts no unwanted attention and looks way more stylish than having front a rear pieces of glass with different tint levels

For comparison, here's my coupé which has only the rears done.

I'd quite happily have the fronts done too, but not got round to it.

Have to disagree with this as a reason to; Tinted windows are more likely to be broken than non-tinted. Yes, opportunist scumbags can't readily see what you've got in the car... so they simply break the window so that can see!

So said the rozzers when my (non-tinted) window was broken a few weeks ago.

Good point...but i'm going to disagree..respectfully of course.
A scumbag will break in whether tinted or not..as they stay true to their name.
However an opportunist if he (or she) sees the goods on display would be more likely to go for it.

In my area there are probably more opportunist crackheads then scumbags.....actually there are both so i'm screwed either way. :(

If you have a dark car it looks good, lighter colours looks a bit naff . I have got limo black tints on the back 3/4 of my disco and have to admit thinking about getting them changed to something lighter allround as they are a pain to see out of. Thank god for parking sensors because i can see sod all when reversing.

having seen a few yesterday with the rears only tinted i quite liked it... and I'm not a big tinted windows fan.... check your insurance out though..it can add to the premium...bizarre as it might seem.

Can you even tint the front side windows? I thought these already came from tinted from the manufacturer to something like 25% - which would pretty make them the limit :? When i went to tint-R years ago for my celica they said they dont do the fronts unless you sign a disclaimer accepting that you are aware they may not be legal - even for a very light smoke.

If i had a coupe i'd personally tint the windows, not too dark thought - just a light smoke - allowing atleast 65% light to pass through.

Pretty mixed bag according to the poll then...one more question which may prove to be the deal breaker.
I'm up for my first MOT in July. Does anyone know if a car will fail its MOT if the fronts are tinted past the legal 70%??

I would do it, looks cool on lucys car. it wont fail an MOT unless it is illegal tint levels i would have thought

mmm-five - is your car dinted on the front wing or is the pic playing tricks?

Watch out tinting side glass.

If you ever have an accident where it may go 50:50 and the side glass is tinted beyond spec and would have been where the hazard originated from a viewing angle point of view, then you really are leaving yourself open to being blamed for an accident that isn't your fault.

The rear ones fine, but the side ones I'd honestly leave as is. That is one area where I'd ask the insurer very specifically and get the tint level checked very carefully... pedestrians that do silly things and get run over can very quickly start to blame YOUR tints and get away with it, not their stupidity... lets put it that way :(

Good point

Mine allow 54% of light through the front, and 42% on the rear. I had them done well over a year ago and they have never been an issue. Even when I've been pulled for speeding the tints have gone completely un-noticed.

It's dinted due to a cock in a lorry deciding he didn't want me to use lane 2 of a merge lane, and deliberately came over from lane 1 to block me.
I stopped, he didn't and he scraped along my wing - although of course his version of events is different to mine.

That's why I had the e92 M3 for the North Wales run the other weekend.
Should get mine back this week once the paint has had time to cure (7 days) for them to be able to fit the paint protection film once again (can't do it quicker as the paint might stick to the film when it's time to be removed).
