Sirius Stealth Antenna Install?

I have Sirius in my M,
I only just activated it today even though I bought the car in December (don't ask lol)


Now is there a way of having the antenna somewhere else other than outside the car face up?

I tried it in the trunk, kept fading in and out of reception,

How about inside the upper plastic center console cover above the console box?

Is there a stronger antenna you can buy that receives signal in the trunk or under a plastic panel?

Ok got it fixed,

For anyone who would like to know for roadsters you CAN mount the antenna in the car and everything works fine,

I mounted above the storage box under the plastic panel in between the 2 roll hoops,

I was having reception issues at first but I read on other forums related to sirius antenna installs that the antenna works better with a magnet under it?

Well seemed weird to me but I put the small magnet that came with it under the antenna and it worked all reception issues out,

So now I have no wires showing and can enjoy sirius with no antenna showing

Thanks! I've had mine on the outside on the strip between the trunk and soft top, and never really liked it there.

Yes you are correct on both counts. The top is electrically inert (ie, trasnparent to radio waves), except for the frame, but there isn't enough of it to cause a problem. I used my Globalstar Satellite Phone in my old Z3 roadie and it worked great. As long as you have a good view of the sky, the signal should be reliable.

Second, the magnet on the bottom of the antenna acts as a ground plane and thus creates a relationship between the antenna and the car surface (kinda like a reflector). This will add gain to the antenna and so make the signal more reliable.

My wife hates it when I get all excited about this stuff :lol:

I am trying to install the OEM sirius antenna on the center dash right behind the windshield as well. I am running the cable to the passenger side and then up the piller. I could get the cable inside the piller and the run the cable into the rubber door seal. However, when I reach the end of the rubber seal right behind the passenger seat (the piller going vertically down), I don't know where to keep the cable hidden and run it into the trunk area. I have the DICE ipod cable coming out of the rear speaker grill and I can run the antenna cable through the same openning. But I need to get the cable from the rubber seal at the top of the door down to the speaker grill. How did you keep the cable hidden while running the cable to the trunk? Thanks!

please could you give me some details about this antenna because i get no reception atall from my stubby. Is this a better option for me?

bobbydole - why don't you run cables straight down the centre console. No need to mess with door seals, etc. You can enter the front anywhere from behind the dash lift out various bits on the console to feed past and then from the rear easily go straight into the boot or divert left/right to either corner.

Here's a quick photo version of how I did mine.

Run the cable along the front of the dash and then tuck it in between the pillar and the dash to get back to the door.

From there turn the corner and follow the seams over to the rubber on the door surround. Then head down towards the floor.

When you get to the panel below the dash route the cable towards the front of the footwell so you can get to the edge of the trim panel with the speaker. From there you can now tuck the cable up under the edge of the trim along the floor.

From there you can tuck the cable under the trim just above the floor and run it all the way to behind the seat. Head up along the edge of the trim until you get to the trim panel behind the seat.

Right behind this junction of the panels is an opening to the rear of the metal work behind the seats where you can easily access the area where your sirius tuner and DICE are located. This assumes you have the area behind the seats opened up so you can access the tuner of course.

Thanks for that! I was told there was no way to mount t anywhere else so i didn't add it. I'm going to get it added now!

Thanks everyone, especially AlanL for the great guide! I spent all afternoon today (and it was pretty hot today in SoCal) routing the Sirius antenna from the dash into the trunk.

I kept at it and was able to route the cable towards the passenger side and then up behind the front piller. Past the pillar I was able to route the cable into the upper door gasket. Past the gasket, I was able to squeeze the cable behind the gap in the verticle pillar behind the passenger seat. Once out of the bottom of the vertical piller was able to pop out the top plastic piece next to the small window and run the cable underneath that and into the trunk. The cable is completely hidden from front to back . And the Sirius antenna is mounted on the center of the dash right behind the front of the windshield.

I am having intermittent outages though. I'll try placing a piece of metal or magnet right under the antenna and see if it helps.
