Sir Alex Ferguson retiring

As a United fan it was a big surprise to hear the retirement of Sir Alex, he will be missed.

Whether you love him or hate him it's hard to ignore the huge success he has had at the club and who ever takes over will have big shoes to fill.

Man U season ticket holders are asking for a 5% reduction in next seasons fixtures due to shorter matches being played. :D

I am a Liverpool fan but I totally agree you simply can't argue with his drive & the huge success he has achieved, he will take some replacing & there is only one way in that job & that's down.

It's the job everyone wants but in reality they really don't!

Hopefully other teams will get a chance of winning the premiership now. :D

Great record but I won't be sorry to see him go. Arrogant, ignorant bully.

How he got knighted for winning the Champions League twice in 26 years and Bob Paisley, who won it 3 times in 9 years as well as 6 League titles, never did, amazes me. Perhaps it was because he was one of those 'Champagne' socialists who Blair and Brown couldn't wait to bestow an honour on.

Ha - cue one José Mário dos Santos Mourinho Félix, setting his CV out. Cue loads of Chelski anguish.....

I do take this view aswell & he always wanted things his own way, I did smile when rafa beat him on Sunday with Chelsea, still think he will take some replacing but it will be interesting to see how the club move on from him leaving.

As a non manc who doesn't care about or even like football, I was surprised to see and hear that the world had actually stopped turning this morning....

Christ-alive, he's only telling some guys to run round a pitch and it seems as important as a Royal death!

I think he'll be missed at OT but will still have influence being an Ambassador and Director of the club, he's set up a model for the club to follow, Training Facility at Carrington, the Youth academy and giving youth a chance in the squad, personally I'd like to see Mourhiho as the next manager, however, historically he's only stayed at clubs for a relatively short while and always gone for established players, I don't know if that attitude would go down well, guess we'll find out by the weekend

I'm not a Man U fan, but have a lot of respect for what he has achieved in the sport, regardless of what he is like as a person. Will be tough to replace him. Biggest issue if Jose comes along, is whether he will want to stay a long time and build a future for himself. I have always said David Moyes would be next manager but not sure he would be good enough, even though he has done well for Everton on a tiny budget.

I'm with the Original Guvnor, LeeZ4MR and Shappers.

How he ever got Knighted. :?
I thought being knighted was a balance between being both successful and being a good role model.
You cannot deny his success but as a role model........... No thanks!
Not looking forward to the forthcoming Sir Ec's tribute week

just seen pics of him on the news, his face is redder than the united strip, he needs to chill out
