Single Garage

Hi all,

Do any of you keep your Zed in a single garage?
If so how wide is the inside of it?

Eyeing up a Coupe and have done all the measurements but would feel better if I knew some of you managed it.

Cheers

Dave

I do, My garage is massive but the door was designed for a mini metro it would seem! (but I didn't put it on) Although I can get the Z in about half an inch either side. The z is quite little really can't give you specific sizes of my garage off the top of my head. I no the Z4MC is 74.8 inches wide.

I have a single garage - ill check tomorrow for you.

What has helped though is sticking a piece of carpet to the wall on driver's side - means i can open the door as wide as possible and let it sit without risk of scraping.

Arent garages different sizes anyway?

I have such a strange house, I cant get any car up the side drive to the small garage that has a pit. Wtf type of car was it built for I cant guess.

I regularly store my car at my dads house, two single garages joined together, but only single garage space. The zed fits ok, just a squeeze getting in and out...

I have a single garage 9 ft wide, 2.7mtr for the metric among us, manage to get my Z in with the motorbike tucked away in the top corner. a bit of a squeeze though :D

Single garage, 262cm wide, plenty of room as long as i keep it over to one side and some foam against the wall for the door to open against.

Here is a couple of pics of my coupe in a single garage

The door way is 2135mm wide and the actual width of the garage is 2360mm,dropping the window does make it easier to get in and out of the car.
I use passenger side door mirror as guide when putting the car in the garage by getting it close to the door frame but without touching it and it leaves a big enough gap so we can get down the side of the car when it's parked up.

Cheers for the replies all,

Brilliant RedZed, Thats exactly what I was looking for. I have poured over the measurements for days, I thought I should be ok but your pic clears it up. My garage is a touch wider so should be ok.

There does seem to be a lot of variance in garage size. Apparently a 'Standard UK garage' size is 3m across, Mine is 2.5m, A friends is 2.65m so ours are not so 'Standard'.

Cheers

My old TT used to be a real squeeze. I often thought about just pushing it in rather than driving it in!

Sorry for rubbish camera-phone photo.

My garage is 243 x 530 cm.

Narrowest point is where the garage door arms come in, reducing it to 216 at its narrowest.

I always reverse in as the beepers tell me when I'm about to hit the BBQ...

At 530cm deep, there is plenty of space at the back of the garage.
243 width is narrow, but if I snug to one side it gives ample space if the door is wide open, hence carpet.

It's easy to forget how wide the zed is compared with a normal hatchback...

I really need to sort out my garage. It's an beneath a double bedroom and en suite extension built onto a 2 bed semi, and it's huge - standard 2m13-ish door, but the inside measurement is 3m29, and it's 6m25 long. White painted breeze block walls, painted floor, four long flourescent lights and it's own fuse box to prevent DIY adventures turning the whole house off. Perfect for working on the car out of the sun/rain/dark. Over 48 cubic meters of space, full of bikes, rugby kit and crap :x

inkey$ has inspired me with Operation Cotton Wool, so I've been looking at 'how to build garage shelves' on the web... I'm no chippy though and there's so much potential for me to waste a forest :P

I'll take some pics soon, start my own thread (sorry OP  ) then once I get over my fear I'll sort it out and display the results :D

Having worked in the construction industry since the early 60's I can confirm that there is no such thing as a 'standard UK garage'. As many posts confirm, whilst garage doors are a minimum width of 1.981 (6ft 6 inches) the actual width of many garages are anything from 2.300 wide to 3.000 wide but many integral garages in modern houses will barely be 2.300 wide due to development restraints which is clearly insufficient due to the usual c**p that is found stored in most garages.
In fact at least 90% of the garages built nowadays don't house vehicles.
