Simplest way to test 4wd?

Not sure if the 4wd on my Volvo has packed up

Normally it's supposed to send 95% to front, 5% to rear

What's the simplest way to test if it's actually going to the rear?

Actually, driving off a jack is a reasonable test if you're careful about it. If the vehicle has open diffs, you only need to raise one corner off the ground. I used a scissor jack for this because it falls over easily. Of course, only raise the car enough so the wheel is barely off the ground.

Find a nice wide piece of flat grass and turn in a circle from standstill and give it some gas then look at the tyre marks , you should be able to tell if the wheels drive/ spin by the marks :D
