Your taking your time with this ... lol
Don't usually rush to fit things anyway - to buy yes, but not to fit! But usually I've got other things that get in the way and I simply move the unimportant things aside for a while, and then occasionally forget about them for a couple of months :P

i couldnt live with myself knowing that it is sat in a box for a couple of months waiting to be fitted. it would be on the day i received it, and my ears burning from the sound of S54 induction roar! :D

Part of the delay is that I want to get before & after sound-clips on the same road, on the day, so that the weather doesn't play a part in changing the sound - so it's more like an hour's job rather than a 5 minute one.

Although my trial fitting/revving shows it might not be particularly audible over the Diablo exhaust (which gets louder, but more rounded as it warms up)

I was going to get that Gruppe M box but I was gazumped so it seemed, so might be back looking at this ...

No wonder it doesnt work, look how small the filter is,I have a k+n cone filter "rated to 340 bhp" which is what our cars are and its massive compared to the feeble simota job, waste of £370.

Size isn't everything (ask Carol)

The physical size of the filter is not necessarily relative to the filtration surface area of the filter as it depends how it's folded and the size of the holes in that filtration surface.

..and we all know K&N are paragons of virtue when it comes to telling the truth about the performance of their air filters

What is the effective filtration surface area of your K&N, what size of particle does it filter out with no oil, with fresh oil and with 20k mile oil on it? What's it's maximum flow?

I don't know any of these figures for my Simota air filter and don't carw, as it's for noise not for performance. I'm sure your K&N is only for noise too, as it won't be giving you any more power either.

A quick read of the Simota website and I see Simota 'claim' a 20% greater surface area than the equivalent size K&N, don't require oil to help with filtration in normal conditions, are about 60% cheaper, 50% lighter and resist heat longer before the epoxy melts and lets the filter fall apart. But then I've never heard/experienced a K&N or RamAir filter falling apart, so what do I know!

anyone have pics of this installed yet? i have yet to see any photos of it. i have an afe intake with a grille scoop and love the noise.

Finally, in between downpours, is the OEM vs Simota comparison.

I think the Rogue Diablo exhaust drowns out the intake, but to my ears in the car there's a 'balanced' growl from the front and rear now, rather than just the rear.

There's no errors, misfiring or such, but initially it felt less 'smooth' on the way through the range - like you could feel the small steps in the power curve (at 2000/3500/5000/etc. rpm), but nothing you'd call 'jerky' or 'lumpy'. After about 20 minutes it felt the same again, so don't know if it's simply the car adapting/adjusting to the new intake or what. I'll see how it goes on my 220 mile motorway commute on Wednesday morning, and might keep the OEM box in the boot in case I need to swap out.

...and yes, I know the engine bay is filthy, but that's only 4 weeks after it was last detailed and it can wait until there's less moistness around before I do it again :headbang:

nice... would you consider a smoothed elbow to increase flow that little bit more, (obviously in black to match engine bay)

I would, but that will have to wait until I decide how much/little modding I'm going to do, as it's difficult (i.e. expensive) enough getting an un/slightly modified car insured in Liverpool for my type of usage, so much more than 'cosmetic' stuff may result in a doubling of the premium (if the premiums I was paying on the VR6 are anything to go by).

This (2013) year is probably only going to see suspension changes, and the exhaust/intake changes were only to quench my desire for more power as the extra noise makes it feel/sound like you've got 100bhp extra

yeah i think your at a sensible medium right now.... try not to overstep it as theirs no return..... lol!!!!

Cool vid, sounds nice :)

Is that your best hooning road though, a single track muddy country lane?! Would hate to think if a tractor pulled out of a field or something...! I think that cyclist heard you coming too  !

Makes sense. Got the same balance issue when changing the backboxes. OEM is very well balanced sound and thouroughly developped. Changing entry and exit for a better sound is very hit and miss but nontheless always louder

That kit seems like a nice fit.

Now I don't know if it comparable but mine was running pretty smoothly straight on and now its just perfect after a hundered miles. Its all settled in nicely and bizzarly hasd stopped the car stalling completly... :?
