I e-mailed simota a while back regarding modifying an intake for a 3.0si, and heard nothing back.

Having offered to post a comprehensive write up and pics etc on a couple of forums i found it a bit disappointing; the development work couldn't be massive as it's just the length of the pipe that requires modification.

i'll be interested in the outcome of this :)

Assuming the MAF connection and mounting points are the same as something they already produce?

and i want to keep my car 100% stock on the outside, so no exhaust

More noise whilst retaining the OEM look? For £80 have you seen the bypass mod a lot on here are having done?

I have seen it. I may go down that route if nothing comes of this.

If you do I may be able to help fella, I've done this to me OEM backbox's, but I'm looking at swapping them back for some OEM ones (not disliking them, just sorted something else :) )

That is the main thing that is putting me off - it's a one way street!

What's the most oem looking aftermarket exhaust that's suitable for daily driving/commuting hack usage (ie not too loud but louder and lighter than stock? )

Right - consider the poll closed.

I'll go back to Simota out of courtesy, but with 13 interested I doubt we will get anywhere. The M must be a very small market.

Cheers to all for the comments etc.

Alastair, did you consider involving the 3.0si litre owners, the basic design will be similar just with a shorter tubing and MAF placement.

i emailed simota enquiring about the 3.0si. I suggested that i'd put a comprehensive write up and pictures on the forum to generate interest and they didn't get back to me.

must've been the spelling mistakes in my e mail :P

the other thing i considered is seeing if the following would work:

buy up just the filter and intake bit from Simota
elbow connector to the engine to a standard say 3" coupling
connector to the intake standard 3" coupling
engineers to make up a MAF mount with 3" coupling either side
engineers to make a few lengths of flat steel with m6 holes drilled to mount intake to wing.
then you need 2 lengths of 3" trunking to join it all up

it sounds a bit of a bodge, but it is essentially what they are selling...if you have 13 interested, all you need is a automobile friendly engineer to make 15 MAF mounts and mounting struts.

Good idea, I will suggest to Simota that this might be worth a look (indeed, any other of the cars that might be similar on the intake side...)

Interesting. Do you know if the front (intake) side is identical for the 3.0si, M, etc variants - is the only difference the MAF placement? Something tells me it'll be less easy than that :(

+1

This air intake looks cheap and nasty. I can't see it improving the OEM design set up. No way would I shove this in the engine bay CF or no CF.
