Simota Carbon Induction Kit

Hi all,

After a bit of advice, seen a couple of people have installed that Simota Carbon Induction Kit on their 3.0 M54 z4’s and would like to get one for mine but can’t seem to find anywhere to buy one from. Seen some for sale on eBay for the X5 and E46 with M54 engines bit nothing for the Z4, is this the same kit?

I know people have also fitted the GruppeM but these are quite expensive and the Simota looks to be similar but better value.

Any advice would be great.

Doesn't seem to be a part number for the Z4 3.0 (nor the M54-engined e39 530i), so it could be totally different, just a different MAF housing or mounting bracket.

For example:
  • e46 330i is CF610-06
  • 3.0 X5 is CF610-14

Yeah I couldn’t find a part number either but it looks like people here have fitted them and some pictures but can’t seem to get a response on which kit they fitted and where it came from. You are probably right could be same units but just different brackets which may need to be modified to fit. The search continues ....

I had one fitted to my Z4. I think it was for an E46 3 series originally. I purchased it second hand. Sounded fantastic, but gave me some issues with revs e.g. It would bog down between 1500-2000rpm, almost as if the car was going to stall. From what I read, it's to do with oil (from the cone filter inside the induction housing) getting into the MAF sensor, so I assume a dry filter would work better?

I also had to fit a silicone reducer between the MAF and the induction kit, as for whatever reason the holes weren't the same size. Only a few quid from ebay, along with a couple of jubilee clips.

Looked nice in the engine bay though, and as said, sounded lovely.

Interesting I was thinking an e46 one might be the ones people are fitting, don’t suppose you know what the kit number was?

Heard of issues with oil filters also, got a K&N panel filter in mine but seems to be ok at the moment and it’s been in a couple of years so maybe yours was over oiled.

Cheers for the update might look more at the E46 ones

You are right looked fantastic

Sorry I don't know the part number. I purchased it from a member in here in 2014. I just had a search and found the thread and it's from an E46 328/330 according to the seller.

They probably don't list the Z4 because of the inlet size, hence why I had to buy a reducer to go in between filter and maf.

Great will look at one of those kits then, thanks for the heads up. Any idea on the type or size of reducer you purchased between the MAF and air box or did you just measure each outlet and fit one as best fit and use the jubilee clips to take up the slack?

Common kit for the 330i seems to be the CF610-06 can anyone confirm this is the correct kit?

Yeah I just measured the 2 holes and bought a silicone reducer from ebay. I think there was only a couple of mm difference between them. I can't remember what size it was, but i managed to find a hose easily enough.

Very interested in how you get on with this. I've been looking for a bit more noise but Gruppe M is out of my price range. Keep us updated if you do give it a go

This is the best place I have found the kit for the 3 series http://www.ppcgb.com/products/simota-carbon-aero-induction-kit-cf610-6

Seems like a bargain at 1/3 of the price of the GruppeM which is also out of my price range :(

Have had a look into this for facelift and more specifically E86 models and it appears to not be possible due to the placement of the MAF sensor on the air box itself rather than in the tubing. Therefore, there is nowhere to put the MAF sensor when the stock air box has been removed :/
