SIM only deal - one you would recommend?

Hi, am wanting to move from my contract SIM with Three to a SIM only (monthly). Been meaning to do this for AGES. Would like to spend less than 12 pounds pm with minutes, texts and at least 250mb internet. I saw Giff Gaff and T mobile have good deals, though was put off by the T mobile one charging 40p per minute for voicemails. Can you believe that?! Double checked with them and it's indeed the case.

Apart from location affecting network coverage, do people have any recommendations for the best carrier to go with? Good customer service and good availability of network.

Saw recently on Watchdog that the 4G coverage on EE was compromised though I don't know about phone coverage / 3G internet. I know T mobile is part of this family. I have an iPhone 4S.

im on EE 4G and Vodaphone BB.

EE is T-mobile / Orange mix and the network is getting worse for 3g , it is brilliant on 4g in London and big cities, but I wish it was as good as orange was before the big merger.

Vodaphone, crap, end of. This is my company BB, and coverage is diabolical...avoid.

I also have two Tesco mobile sim only that i use in my old HTC and old iphone. Its pretty good coverage and I mainly use it for the data and SMS packages. Good coverage, and this is run off the O2 network, so worth a punt.

Giff gaff user here.. I pay £12 for 250 mins, 500 or so texts and unlimited data.

Indizee, thanks for the info. 3G on EE is getting worse?? Oh no. That ins't good for a 3G user like me. Is it sufficient for playing a YouTube video now and again, opening attachments?

Im on O2 and have been for years..

£10.00 a month gets 500mb of net access,250 mins and 1200 texts..

Depends on your user rate but i rarely use half of my allowance, and you get 10% back every 3 months....So it works out at £9 per month..

giff gaff is good for the money

Thanks Brasseye. Could I ask if you've used the SIM abroad? I had a quick look on the Giff Gaff website and with the SIM only deal, it was saying you have to have a way of 'topping up' in order to use your phone when roaming abroad? Have you any experience of this? Is is easy?

sure;y for a few extra quid the virgin VIP sim only deal is one, unlimted everything for 14.99.... i have it, reception is great, 3g all the time.... and 30 day rolling contract imo, its unbeatable!

10 per month on giff gaff. 500 mins unlimited text and 1gig data.

Only thing then you have to pay for is picture messages. But I did on O2 anyway and you can always use what's app or the like

I mentioned before that now with T-Mobile (EE) I no longer get decent data in London. In the station, I can not even send iMessages until I have left the station and tethering my laptop on a client site is useless. Emails are sending poorly as well in London.

It has got a lot worse over the last 6 months as well to the point that data is pretty much useless in the city.

O2 do 300 mins 300 texts and 500mb of data for £11 per month.

That might have expired now though.

I'm on £16 for 500 mins, unlimited texts and 500mb of data. I occasionally go over on minutes

I'm with EE, 4G - 3gb of data and unlimited mins/texts for £21 per month on a 12 month sim only plan.

Virgin Media: (runs off t-mobile)

1200 mins
3000 texts
1gb
3000 virgin to virgin
1 month rolling contract
£6 inc VAT a month with a discount following other services to our home from VM.

Got my whole family on it as its an absolute bargain!

Thanks oakandacorns for giving me the kick up the arse I needed :D I pay £33 a month at the moment (out of contract) 200 mins/500mb data, going to switch to Virgin 1200 mins/1gb data for £12. Why didn't I do this before!!

The expression "flimpering along" was based on you though ....
