It is mate, I've actually got a whole spare centre console at home if you're interested in having one off of the car to do and saving yours if its in good condition?

Feel free to pop over and we can figure out how to remove etc as it's off the car and should be simple!

Thanks Rob, I appreciate the offer. May well call on you. I was hoping there might be a thread on it so I can follow step by step

Well what I was implying is that because mine is out of the car you can just take a look out how it comes out!

You could even paint the one I have, and then swap me back with the one you currently have so you don't have to go any amount of time without one fitted. :)

Thanks Patriot66, I've looked at that one and unless I'm looking / reading it wrong the instructions are to remove the centre console which I was hoping to avoid .

It definitely has to all come out as it's held on by about 50 million torx bolts. That thing would be the only thing to survive a 150mph crash

So, take the whole lot out and then separate the silver trim from console , is that right

Sounds like it mate.

How's your car looking now days? It's been a while!

Yep, hardest part is getting the knee pads off to reveal two screws. I think they must be structural parts as the buffers don't like to come off. Other than that it's an easy enough job.

Ok thanks , a few others have also confirmed what I didn't want to hear, oh well I'll give it go

A little trick I found that you may not be aware of, is once the ashtray is removed you can push the knee pad out from the inside. You can just about get at one or two of the fixings with a long screw driver. It's just enough to free one end so you can pull the knee pad off.

Despite my best attempts to lever mine our with a couple of different trim tools, they wouldn't budge till I tried this method.

I also enquired on the replacement cost of a knee pad. Though I can't remember the exact cost, it was silly money!

I'm also changing my panel to a new unscratched/undented one. (Std alu M aluminium - now this time with 3M protection tape...)

Some great tips here, cheers!

You can also shove something small up behind the knee pad via the footwell and press either side of it to make it pop out.

There's a link in my sig to photos of when I had my trim sprayed black. Definitely worth investing in a drilldriver if you don't have one already!

It has been a while, my Zed is looking a lot different from the last time we met. Dream Red Leather as you know, two tone black chrome 224s and aero skirts are on there way . After market headlights which are not everyone's cup of tea but they suit the look I'm after. Carbon badges all round and I'm going to spray ( when I get it out) the silver trim possibly Shark Grey.

While you have the centre console out, can you get a tracker fitted under it so, when we're out on a run, we'll be able to work out where the f*ck you are...?
