Silver powder coating 108s

Hi guys you may have seen my other post about refurbing 108s..

It's going to cost over 120 quid a wheels as apparently they have to be dipped to have a 2 year warranty.

I've been asking around and a few powder coasters recon they can coat them in a "white metallic silver" similar to a stock silver painted wheel.

Firstly has anyone had there's powder coated like this?

Secondly the coater says its all about getting the right powder for this effect but he is yet to find one that matches this close - anyone had any powder coati g experience?

Cheers

Yup, mine were split, acid dipped, powder coated & bolts chromed.

Guy sprayed outer lip in AUDI titanium silver, innards in Porsche silver. It's a nighttime pickie on a mobile taken a few months back, definitely worth going two tone though how extreme is down to u.

If your not going to go with a polished lip like from the factory then as Jembo says they need to be two tone at least otherwise they look pants.

Two tone is the best way. £120 per wheel does sound a bit steep though :o

If you're paying £120 per wheel - try to get a mirror chrome lip, to keep it OEM, with high power silver inners

Well I am also try to do powder coating on my car's doors but I also want to do paint on it. So what I have to do first powder coating or paint? I am little bit confused! because I never done this before. So that's why I want to know that what I have to do first.

Jembo do you have any pics in daylight or from distance, centre looks a shade darker than I would want I think, maybe it's the pic.

What company did them for you.

Would it make much difference if I got them shot blasted instead dipped?

I'll see about getting some more closups of the 108's this weekend.

Had a friend of a friend who repairs Porsche & Lambo wheels do them for me, though can't comment what the difference is between shot blasting & dipping - am sure someone on here will enlighten us.

Have been paranoid about kerbs & potholes ever since

The only reason I went for the painting option over powder-coating was that the paint will hide/fill small imperfections whereas the power-coat is so fine that it doesn't.

I have my turbines from my M5 powder-coated, and was NOT happy with the finish. The original place said that was normal, so took it somewhere else and they agreed that it was normal for powder-coating and it would cost a lot more to prepare the wheel for powder-coating than for painting. All assuming they bother to do the work you've paid for :P

You also seem to have a broken 'point' on that last photo :poke:
