I've been reading the forum for a while, since I first considered a Z4. Now it is time to sign on.

I recently bought a 2.5 E85 that needs some attention. There are a few scuff marks on the lower edges and the wheels need a refurb plus lots of other bits that need sorting. When I bought it the engine had a nasty mis-fire at idle when cold, but I have replaced the CCV and it seems to run fine now. And I have polished the headlights back to a decent condition.

According to the specification the car has M-sports suspension. Can someone please explain how this differs from the standard suspension? Thanks!

The m sport suspension is only springs as far as I know, it's about 20mm lower than the SE spec car & the dampers are the same ( the real M car uses different dampers & anti roll bars)
The engine breathers on these cars seem susceptible to clogging up, the long oil change intervals don't help, nor do short journeys.

The shocks and anti roll bars are different as well, so its different springs,shocks and ARB's with approx 20mm drop on the m sport suspension. The m sport suspension was standard on preface lift 3.0 cars but a cost option on the 2.2 & 2.5 models.

There is a website that details the full spec of your car including options, but I can't think of it at the moment, might of been the bmw owners club!

What are your plans for the car, OEM or modding or simply enjoying it?

Thanks! I intend to enjoy the car through the summer while occasionally investigating some minor problems. There's the door mirror controls not working reliably, the passenger seat, and one broken cup-holder for starters. Longer term I need to do something with the wheels, and with the leather on the steering wheel. And I already dislike the tyres. So lots of little bits to do, but the car seems to be running fine so I'll just drive it for now.

If you put the last 7 digits of your VIN into this site; http://www.bmwvin.com/ It will give you the car's spec as it left the factory.

Thanks everyone. I had already used BMWVIN to check the specification and that's where I found out about the suspension. Has anyone on here ever sourced the back of a seat back? That's the panel that fits to the back of the passenger seat upright, not the complete seat upright. Is this the oddest part of a Zed to go missing? :o
 
Think people remove these to fit audio equipment,someone could have fitted after market then removed it before selling the car on.it does seem very illogical :wink:

I think Spock means the plastic panel on the back of the seat, not the chubby/speaker grill.
