Sidelight Bulb Issue

I was driving yesterday with my lights on auto and the "sidelights came on" as did an error on the dash as seen below:

I got out the car and noticed the drivers side sidelight had gone out and my drivers side indicator was on constant.

This is my headlight...

I took the wheel off and covers to get to the lights thinking it would be an easy replacement! Eventually I had this out.....

The bulb came out with a mighty pull and had engraved: philips 12v 10w.

Now I'm sure is just an indication I need to replace the bulb which is fine, my question is do I just get a direct replacement or has anyone fitted LED lights or brighter lights. I find it looks weird having WHITE main beams and yellow side lights.

I've looked through various websites and everyone elses guides seem to be for a different type of headlight!?!

Thanks in advanced.

The indicator illuminating is an extra and external sign you have a bulb out.

Choice is yours on replacement. Loads of thread where people fit led replacements, albeit as you say mainly on pre facelift lights.

cj10jeeper, Thanks for the response.

I have replaced the bulb and issue remains ongoing, I have noticed its intermittent... as weird as it sounds, most often when driving above 40mph the warning light goes off and the light works again.

It's like a scene out of speed only with a dodgy sidelight!?

Any clues before I take her to stealers.

Thanks again.

Craigza this exact same thing happens on my 2006 E85...

Seems likely to be a dodgy connection rather than the bulb itself, very annoying! as I'm just trading it in I've never had it looked out so can't help with a fix though sorry!

As posted almost certainly a wiring/connection issue. I'd disconnect and reconnect the headlight loom and the bulb holder itself (and even swap them left side to right side)
Do some basic elimination like this before consulting a dealer for a big bill.

I was just at the gym and noticed a "BMW Specialist" garage hidden away just opposite, popped in and they claimed to of had a few in with the same problem.

He's confident they will sort it for the price of an hours labour, for that price Im going to take the gamble and let them have her for an hour tomorrow.

Seemed to think its just a loose / dirty connection but I remain sceptic as I had it all apart myself yesterday!

Will post back results tomorrow!

Thanks again guys.

Issue has been FIXED thanks to a local "BMW Specialist" that was hidden away nearby!

Just to wrap this one up:

Work carried out:
Checked light unit, found poor power supply to light, check wiring and located fault to wire rubbing body. Carry out repair.

Invoice total: £28.80

Very very relieved it wasn't a module.

Thanks again for the advice guys.
