Side Light on when Engine off?

Alright Gents,

I've had my coupe now for a couple of months and gave it a good clean and polish today as we are going away this weekend. When i finished I took minute to admire it, and noticed the front right hand side light was on. Thought this was strange? Turned the lights on and off, no change? So started thinking I had an electrical fault, and thought i'd disconnect the battery and see if it might reset its self. So disconnected and re connected, no change? Giving i;m going away I went and packed the jump leads thinking the battery is going to die whilst we're away.

So i went to move it along the drive and when i started the ignition the indicator was on, turned it off, moved the car and locked it up and the side light lamp had gone out. So it you have everything turned off and put the indicator on in either direction (left for left & right for right) then your front side light comes on, Random? Anyone know why BMW decided to give us this free option!?

It's for when you park up and want to let people know your car is sticking out, say onto a road. For other road users.

I've not heard of this before, but this is the first "real" car i've had. So if they go to the bother of fitting this on the front why do the rear ones not come on also!? That would be logical, no?

Did you know, that if you pull your indicator stalk toward you, you can activate the 'safety home' light. :poke:
No? - Try it in the dark tonight!!

I thought the rear did come on as well otherwise it doesn't really help as you are meant to park facing the correct way, i.e. not on the wrong side of the road.

Quite possibly needs to be coded and set? I never realised my car could do that, until Pawnsacrifice told me. Have you tried it with the engine off?
