Side indicator lights

Ive seen a few times on the forum people have slimmed down there side indicator lights, how much is advised to take off and how would you go about cutting it down thanks in advance

Interesting. Having had these modules out and opened them up before I'd think this would be very hard to do without damaging them. Do you have the orange surrounds or the clear ones? If you have the orange and just want to improve the aesthetics I'd opt for some clear modules instead. I have some lying around somewhere as I replaced them with new ones.

I quite like the side indicators on the Z4. If you do end up cutting them down I hope you post pics, I'd be interested to see them. I definitely wouldn't cut from the top as suggested in that thread though, like I say, I think there's a very high chance of damaging them so opening them up and cutting from the bottom where it's less noticeable would be my advice.

I have the clear ones i was just more interested in how its been done ive got a spare one lying about somewhere aswell so i might experiment on it and see what happens

I tried this years ago. Messed it up and ended up having to pay out for 2 new clear side indicators :headbang: i think i gave them away free to a member on here. Hopefully they were able to make use of them. They weren't too bad, but i used a dremel and wasn't able to cut the plastic perfectly straight.

I really don't see the point in this mod. The indicator is only maybe 15mm or so thick, so if you slim it down it will hardly be visible when indicating as it is already woeful as standard.
Instead, why not mount the BMW roundel flush with the circular mount which would look much better and possibly fit a decent LED indicator on the wing mirror case etc. Just my two penn'orth FWIW.

It doesn't affect the visibility of the side repeater. The orange light is still just as bright.

I agree that you are not reducing the brightness of the already not very bright bulb, but surely you are making the unit slimmer and therefore reducing the surface area of the lens thus making it less visible unless looking at it from head-on or behind. :?
