Just heard the sad news about Prof Sid. Such a lovely chap. Remember when I worked in F1 in the 90's he would arrive at the circuit in the morning in his blazer and big 'churchill' cigar and shout over a 'morning chaps' to our awning. Always had an interesting tale to tell. Sadly missed!

Just reading the tributes this morning... so many people with so many good things to say. He and Max Moseley made F1 as safe as it is today. He'll be much missed...

Thats really sad news. Its really emotional in the Senna movie when they talk about how he talked with Senna the weekend of his death and told him to give it up if he was worried.

Certainly a few drivers around these days that wouldn't be, or certainly wouldn't be racing still if it hadn't been for Sid Watkins. He's the sort of person that should be in the honours list (to add to his OBE), not jumped-up celebs who've done nought.

+1

At least at 84 he's had a good and long life.

By chance I watched the BBC documentary "Grand Prix - the Killer years" on Tuesday night - scary stuff.
