Inspired by Mr.Wilks and of course the breadvan, a thread to celebrate all things Z3.

Current or previously owned cars all valid. Here are my two experiences. My first ever BMW; a widebody facelift manual 2.8, then ///Polly the 3.2 MC :)

Looks a minter Tim. Where did you get the magnetic(?) stoneguards from?

Thanks Inkey, I bought the stone guards from USA when I bought the Zed, they're genuine BMW ones which surprised me as I never thought they did them. If you PM Titan (Terry) on here he was making sets for peeps on ZRoadster.net a while back, he may have some spare. If not ask on ZRoadster.net or the other site ZRoadster.org.

Anyone suggest a best year to go for, IE facelift as im not that clued up on Z3s no more, and colour thinking silver to match the Z4 or that a bit sad!?

Personally I would go for a facelift model after April 1999 but its personal preference whether you like the lift arse like mine or pre facelift like Mr Wilks.

The facelift had a few refinements on the interior and a double layered hood, the 1.9s went from the twin cam 140bhp M44 engine to the 118bhp single cam M43 on the facelift. Mines the 118bhp its not fast but love the engine as its very smooth for a 4cyl and likes to be revved, fine for pottering about in with the hood down. Originally I was looking for the 2.2 170bhp model but just couldn't find one with low miles in mint nick at the time.

Here's our Z3. Just done 92k and flew through the MOT. not the best handling car but lots of character and a great cruiser, love it

Had a silver 2.2 facelift before 'upgrading' to the Z4. Still think the Z3 interior was more 'sportscar' than the Z4 offering and the handling was more engaging. Finally the cockpit was far less blustery at speed compared to the Z4. Don't regret the change though, the Z4 exterior is the dog's!

Thanks Terry and Andy  and to think I nearly replaced it with a VW Up or a Hyundai i10 :o

I think I've made for me personally the right decision in trading the E89 in for the M135i. My only concern if keeping the E89 long term as I was planning is reliability, its alot more complicated than the Z3 as expected and I imagine ££££s to fix once the warranty has gone. My Z3 has the manual roof and no aircon so I guess less to go wrong.

Only problem I've had with the Z3 is the failed boot wiring loom which is becoming common as they get older.

Not mine but my Sister's old 2.2 she owned. Decided to buy my first Z after she bought this.

All film and stickers removed, cleaned up well. Exchanged it for the current Z4 in March 2012.

Many thanks Terryvision, not the best of photos unfortunately, but the thread bought back some good memories of the old Z3.
