Plus the 26 minutes between thinking about getting one, to buying it!!

bought this watch in a flea market in Norwich about 10 years ago. It cost £45, its a 'Royal'. I bought it cos I thought it looks like a Rolex from a distance

Coincidence. It's meant to be

Edit - spelling

Slight thread diversion but as there are many watch experts contributing to this thread I thought I'd ask. My Rolex Submariner could do with going off to Rolex for a service now. What's the damage? I was expecting about £500? Anyone else had theirs serviced?

Usually £475 so around £500 is on the money. They will also refinish the watch to just bought standard. If you have specific things you want them to look at they will also do this, just tell the dealer you hand it into or include a note of sending to the service centre yourself.

I'm assuming is a recent model sports model and not what they term 'vintage' as they are £875 to service them :o

Oh and Rolex have now changed their recommended servicing from 3 years to 10. Not that most people stuck to 3, it was more like 5 years or when it started gaining or loosing lots of time.

Oh and it's usually a quickish turn around. They usually quote 12 weeks as sport models are sent back to Switzerland but mikes had all his back within 4 to 6 weeks in the past year and he's sent back 5 current and vintage.

Thanks for info Angie. Very helpful. Yes it's a recent Sports model (last 10 years). I'll take it in to the jewellers next week then. I'm considering swapping it for a new IWC Portuguese when it's back.

Just to add to the confusion, some prefer to purchase a case that has not been repolished on the second hand market. To be fair, they only remove a very miniscule amount of metal & I have always had mine polished at a service - like getting a new watch all over again!

If you are considering trading it for an IWC (Portuguese is a lovely watch btw!), might be worth getting an understanding on the price you would get for yours pre & post a service. Unless you were thinking about selling it privately, in which case I'd get it serviced.

Angie, hadnt realised Rolex had changed their service intervals - when did that come in?

Not really a coincidence most of the range is porker themed- Gulf, Martini, 924 and 944 .

Great looking watch Tim.

Nearly a steering wheel shot

Sorry but back on topic please

Pictures of Tag's and AP's ( which I assume after the taking down to Envy is real) are not 'cheap' watches and do not belong in the thread.

If you want to show off a watch with your steering wheel then please visit Timezone or the likes

Interesting choice for the change but still a lovely watch. You will get more selling the Rolex privately, like most things. If you know anyone on the watch forums they could probably have it shifted within a day. Alternatively you could contact a dealer on Chrono24 to see what price they would be willing to give for it.

But like with most things, the trade price is never that great especially when trading against another item.

Lol! Tim! I know why you've done it. Not sure why we now have an AP being posted which, if real could buy your Z3 about 4 times over.

And I live with someone who thinks A tag and Rolex are cheap. Even the one of the local watch dealers have a very low opinion of the Tag watches they sell

Wonder if he will return here?!

Quite enjoyed his ranting

Anyway, had this on today

Seiko SKX007 with new hands, bezel, insert, domed sapphire, signed crown & hacking movement. Oh and a black day wheel to balance with the 9o'clock side. So basically not a 007, but just still comes within budget but certainly won't give me a return if I sell it!

And for the eagle eyed, not a photo from today as the date is wrong!

Hang on my Z3 is priceless  Well about the cost of a Timex actually

I've learnt with Tags don't try and sell once you've bought  unless you're prepared to take a big loss, styling wise I do like them over a Rolex which I've never warmed too somehow.

I'm warming to a BRM which I'm trying to resist
