Hello,

My centre console (the insert around the gear stick and handbrake) is pretty scratched after the previous owners have had keys or coins rattling around in there so I'd like to do something with it.

What have you guys done? Wrapped or painted it? Also is it difficult to remove? Mine’s the standard silver colour plastic with the aluminium on the outside and on the dash.

Thanks,

Dan

I love it :D

Looks great, I'm looking at sorting these pieces of plastic though....(not the handbrake handle itself, the plastic trim under it).

this was mine, although i ripped it all off after a hot summer meant it start peeling on the curved bit.

mines also scratched so i will be painting it black when i get a chance.

removing the whole lot is quite a big job. the whole centre console needs to come out, including the bit that surrounds the cubby door up the middle. takes a good few hours to remove and fit back in.

I have the same problem. a lot of scratching under the handbrake.. The only solution I can see is to take it out and spray it or cover.. whatever I guess its got to come out to get a decent finish.

I replaced these bits of plastic... 1 year later they are scratched again. I am going to find the shade of grey and respray I think perhaps putting on several coats unlike BMW

I did the aluminium in Alcantara and the plastic in 3M Di-Noc carbon fibre effect wrap. No issues with heat, scratching or peeling, been through summer.

I have the same problem on the plastics under the handbrake - the middle section apparently slides out if you remove the gear lever surround, but the sides need the whole centre console removed. Which seems a lot of effort when I can't have my car in bits for days, so not sure what to do about it...

Don't think the carbon will suit my car, I wonder if I could wrap it in silver vinyl. That would prevent scratching.

Another annoying thing I've noticed is the aluminium dash is damaged where some monkey has tried to prise out the stereo without removing the vents and the bolts. Do aluminium dash trims come up for sale at all?

2dogs has a set - I was going to buy and wrap them in leather, but I have shelved that idea for now. Not sure what he was going to charge as we never got that far, but there was a set (long bit and short light switch surround) on eBay recently for about £120.

Plasticine would be one solution to that problem, just don't apply it like bing did

Plasticine ? I am not sure that will hold it's form very well... Might also attract small children into to your car

Plastidip is cool stuff I've used it before on wing mirrors and other bits. Not sure if it comes in silver though. I've even found a company that will do your whole car for £300!!

Thanks for all the ideas. Something to think about when the car comes back from the paint shop. Looks like I'll end up having to take it all out and paint it or wrap it anyway.

Bloody auto correct, PLASTIDIP

:D

Under the handbrake though, if you put stuff in there like your phone, it could wear away ?
